LeahT, that is the difference between a heart type's perception of self and a head type's perception of self though. Heart types like or dislike who they are in reference to _____. A head type is happy more so in relation to himself. I say that because I get accused of that a lot. Sometimes you are right that I concern myself with such subject when I make that kind of statement, but after the concern, it's the decision that I choose or try to stick with it.

All of this time I thought my second type was a fear type, which I have often questioned anyway, but after just telling you my family history, it seems impossible. I can't think of a single person in my family who has a head type as first or second. Most of them are so strong in the first two, I can't even figure out their head types. Hmmm... I hope that means that we, including myself, are a bunch of dominating kick-assers.

Well, I have a very strong 4 fix and wing but I just stopped seeing the point theorizing about it. I won't get any definite answer and even if I did, what use would it be for me now? What does it help me to know how I would be if I walked a different path in life? As I said, there was a time I used to brood a lot over who I'd be if things in life had turned out differently and those thoughts were definitely driven by envy (what if this thing didn't happen to me, life would be so much better, it'd be the normal life I never had but I see people around me having) but I stopped caring after I accepted that this is how things are. It won't change a thing.

I was waiting for the day you and I would meet.

    (where's da heart at?)
Try this heady family on for size:

    Father: 5w6 so/sp or sp/so (INTP)
    Mother: 6wB sp/so (ISFJ)
    Brother: 6w7 apparent so/?, maybe sp/so (INFP)
    Me: 5wB sp/sx (INxJ, more T than F)

    Where's the gut?

Also, I put the cognitive types in as I've figured them by functions, the most accurately I can discern. I ended up in weird opposition to all of them by being Ni/Se where they all seem reasonably strongly Si/Ne.

I think my family is in contrast surprisingly well-rounded:
    Me: 5w4 and pseudo-image type
    Dad: 9w1
    Stepmom: 3w4 I think, or possibly 6
    Stepbrother: 6w7

Wow! That's a lot of reactive types right there. How did that go over growing up in that?

Since my family is well-spread out in terms of centers (albeit we are still clustered on certain areas of the chart), the thing that stands out most to me the SP dominance so prevalent in my family. If I were to pick any "message" that stood out the most to me growing up, it would an SP message:

Why are you taking leisure time when you could be making money?

Oh, don't ride your bike over there, it's not safe.

Don't do that, it's a waste of money.

Why spend $20 for a good meal when you could get a crappy meal for $5...taste doesn't matter, it's only $5!

You can't leave a job you're miserable in without having another job you'll be equally miserable in lined up.

-Hey this exciting honor happened to me! -What are you going to do with this? or What is this going to do for you? -Um, other than be honored?

Why are you trying to get an internship? Why don't you go out and find a real job?

    I'm not even exaggerating.

This system works for me, and it's especially interesting to see the other types in my wider category turn out to be the very ones I've revisited periodically. I feel more like I was an "active" child by temperament, who was a mix of 4, 7 and 8, before I settled on habits, and who could very easily have gone any of those three ways. Returning to a state where the baggage is lighter and I can be willful and adventurous with nothing to prove has been a longtime goal.
