Do you need a wing?

Do you have to have a wing. I took the test and came out an 8 with 5 as my second highest score. My 7 and 9 were tied. Does this mean I have no wing? My scores were pretty high for 3 and 4 and 1.

When I first took the test, I scored as a 5. I think I was feeling down when I first took it.

That doesn't necessarily mean you do not have a wing, but there are those who don't really identify with either. Types may identify with both wings to a degree, but in most cases people do have a wing.

8 and 5 are along the integration/disintegration path [5 moves to 8 in growth, 8 moves to 5 in stress] which can account for the high score. You're probably either of those types, but since your other high scores are 7 and 9 [wings of 8] I'd say you're an 8.

Most people only have one wing. It all makes sense now, doesn't it?

That's why most of us are flying in circles looking for our type.

You don't have to. I guess you could be 8 with a 9 wing. I am 9w8 but 8 doesn't test second, you just have to read up. Nice Eugene Sandow avy btw.

Wing determines which side of the ennegram you lean toward. You don't always test your wing in second place.

You look up 5w6 and 5w4, for example, and see which one describes you better.

it's not about strength necessarily, it's about how the two types interact with each other. does 8 combine more with 7 or with 9? I'm a 4w3, but I score extremely low on 3 and very high on 5. that's the thing tho, 4w3s and 3w4s are VERY different. for instance, 3s are incredibly image conscious and interested in being classy and sophisticated, but there definitions of class are usually completely different. 3s are image conscious, but 4w3s are generally the complete opposite and healthy 4w3s often don't care what anyone thinks of them. the only thing we care about image wise is communicating what we actually feel inside through various means such as art, music, fashion and verbal communication, (a good example that I can think of would be Will Ferrill and Chris Kattan in Night at the Roxbury. they were high maintenance as hell and constantly being as glamorous as possible, but no one's response to them had any affect on them whatsoever)

anyway, I don't know much about 8 wings overall, but 8w7s tend to be more wild and crazy and 8w9 tend to be more laid back and lower energy. look for traits in yourself that might seem like a combination of 8 and 7 or a combination of 8 and 9, even if you don't explicitly have more traits of 7 or 9.

PS: have you looked at the 5 wings (4 and 6) and checked to see if either of them sounded more like you?

oh and also, if you are a Self Preservation 8, these are frequently mistyped as 5s because they have a similiar attitude about life and do many of the same things.
