Our children are named, but I rather like the name Aaron if we had another boy.

In fun land I like Mordikai.

I heard Stacey Keach interviewed and he was pround of his. Maybe, over the years, people have used it more for females but it used to be a fine Irish "man's" name. Seems to be a rather sad commentary on the kids of today though. Could be character building with the "in your face" brats. I think Julia Roberts thinks so.

Who cares what it used to be, or what it says about our kids? It's not fair to give your son that burden. There're a lot of names that can "build character" in that way. You could name him -eating -loving er for that matter. Nevermind the fact that he will have trouble filling out those bubbles on his SAT.

I thought of this a while ago. Good thing I haven't had kids in the interim. I really liked the names 'Eniede' and 'Lavinia' for girls. Now I'm like, yikes. Everyone told me Eniede was a horrible horrible old-fashioned name. I like anachronistic names I guess, I remember Lavinia was a character in a book I read.

Anyhow, my kids regardless/depending on who I'm partnered with would have a 'traditional' or linguistically apropros name. You know, 'from the motherland' and possibly also an American English name.

But, yeah, I don't really like the idea of common names for my kids. I'm not gonna pull a 'Seven' on them though (you know, a la Seinfeld).

My parents wanted me initials to have EL in them to match my grandma's so I could inherit a locket with those intials on them. They chose against Esther (which is my grandma's name) because it was too old fashioned I like the name Esther but I do agree the name brings up visions of the elderly.

I don't know what names I like, but I find name-trends interesting. Why do some names become popular while other names become less popular? What causes this?

As with any trend the passing of time is really all there is to it. Some names never die though, John for instance.
