Default Online forum happenings

Call me an oversensitive sap.

I only read selective sections of this forum, so I am not aware of the various strange happenings going on.

It seems sometimes, there is some history behind member relationships (from other forums, other threads, etc.). I wont give specific examples because that is a nasty road to go down, and I like pretty much everyone on the forum.

The written word is often confusing. Especially given that for many members, English is a second (or third or fourth or whatever) language.

I also think sometimes, we may have offended someone without intending to.

Can anyone relate, strange, amusing, or confusing past happenings without inciting a flame war?

What was done to resolve the situation?

Use the Ignore function.

Liberally.

(sorry, kind of hard to talk about these things right now. But stuff happens. We all have to monitor ourselves and set up our own boundaries.)

Actually, I don't use Ignore very often myself. It is a viable solution for many people, though.

There have been times I have blown up at someone publicly... usually because I felt backed into a corner and then they continued to push. Sometimes it was just my perception that they were pushing, rather than them actually doing something purposefully combative.

I wait for awhile until I can talk about it, then I often PM them and explain why I was upset, apologize if I need to, and ask them what they meant... so that bad blood does not build.

or just be a bitch like me and purposefully read everything (including threads that died before you joined!) for the sake of information that you could use or be annoying to someone in the far future with!

have I revealed too much of my real self there!?

I don't tend to lash out at anyone, but I do tend to tell them when I'm not enjoying our interaction, and why, especially if the conversation eventually goes to pm.

There are a handful of INFPs I know from INFPg, some I like, some I've never been able to relate to. I just chalk it up to different values, different environments, different experiences, etc.

An even temper and self-assuredness (not arrogance) tends to solve most of my problems. If I and another person can respectfully agree that we have reached an impasse, that's fine.

I don't tend to hold grudges against anyone for long, especially when I get a chance to talk to them in a fair and impartial way and learn more about them. All my conflicts with people to date have either faded into nothing or been peacefully resolved.

But there was that one time... hehehe.

There's a lot of history here. We have members hailing from the war-torn intellectual battlefields of INTPc, the deceptively harmonious INFPgc, free-spirited travelers who found us via Google, a few who have just stumbled onto the Internet here from the real world, and finally a very few who have come down from the technical forums and USENET groups to try and reach out to regular people.

There have been several heated threads here even since I've been here, and there were a few before I came. These threads are not how things usually happen, but it can be really stormy when it does. We usually come to some kind of resolution, though. Either by a member realizing their error, an admin convincing them to let it go, or in one case, someone being banned (that's rare here, though).
