Default What topics intefere with your rationalism?

I have noticed (obviously) that certain types are capable of debating sensitive subjects without going mental like I do.

Things like peadophilia, slavery, rape, abortion, sexism, get me quite upset, and it does come across when I am debating.

What topics upset you so much that your thinking becomes irrational?

Pretty much anything personal that I don't feel that I'm on top of.

Edit: But I think that's about it. Phenomena as such don't upset me at all.

A discussion about rationalism.

For me, psychosis is the irrational response to an irrational world. And therefore, it's rational.

Not much, really. Even when I strongly disagree with the person I'm debating with.
Perhaps something that's personal.
The issues you listed are more "global" issues that I can easily step outside of and analyze from a distance.

I get a little irrational during any debate. But I try to maintain my logical abilities. It can make for good rhetorical skills (I hope).

Unfortunately, I have been accused of "driving a point so hard it hurts".

Even though, I believe I am simply making the best argument I can, while still being open to being convinced that I am wrong.

So you could debate peadophilia with a peadophile, who inspite of how much evidence you present showing it's wrong, still maintians its right without getting agitated in anyway?

See I can't do that, I find it so hard to let go and not debate it emotionally as I find those topics very emotionally charged....for me.

.
Yes, that happened to me not so long ago, the angle I took to drive home a point was far too invasive and the person became realy offended, yet had that person given me a logical reason as to why lying to loved one is ok and still call it proper love, complete love, they may have been able to change my mind, instead I came off looking mean.

Well, no, but then my agitation would be due to the danger of his molesting children and my inability to stop it, not the debate in itself. To illustrate, if he was locked-up for good, then I would be able to retain my calm while attempting to convince him (not that I would ever waste effort trying to convince a pedophile that pedophilia is wrong, but that's another story).

I think I can rationally discuss anything as long as it does not, directly or indirectly, touch upon something personal... Then reason becomes arduous.
