A few recommendations for an ambient - downtempo sound... (Artist Album)

Future Sound of London "Lifeforms", "ISDN"
Tosca Suzuki
Kruder & Dorfmeister The K&D Sessions
Peace Orchestra Peace Orchestra
Cafe del Mar Vols. 2, 3, 6.
Koop Sons of Koop
Solar House Magic of the City

and a bonus recommendation as they are so good -

The Cinematic Orchestra All albums. :)

Athenian:
Styx - awesome, I missed them
Duran Duran - decent music, but I'm going to pass on this one
Queen - As far as I am concerned, Queen battles with Led Zepplin as Gods of Rock. I have a ton of both already.
America - I've heard the horse with no name song on the radio recently, interesting stuff.
Tom Petty - I'm Free Fallin',

I have to admit, I'm a little confused by all these bands with "Orchestra" in the name which do not use an orchestra at all.

This was a recent find in the category of good Japanese Pop music:
YouTube - Rin' Sakitama

I'm a little sad that I couldn't find this on US iTunes though:
YouTube - Rin' - sakura sakura

A traditional Japanese folk song (jazzed up a bit) about Cherry Blossoms.

Charming!

Of note: I have a stack of Chinese pop music on the desk in front of me brought back from Hong Kong. Have yet to rip into it. Looks like good fun.

No, you aren't -
There are always bands with more questionable names! :)

As for TCO, indeed it does not - it's an electronic-jazz outfit. (More jazzy than electronic, however.) It's calm, dark, moody. A lovely sound. That's why I'm recommending them!

Lethe: I'm surprised to see that someone else has even heard of Arcana, much less listened to it. Have you checked out Dargaard? They are pretty good as well, and akin to Arcana! I'm also familiar with a great portion of the rest of your list... currently looking at Sopor Aeternus for my next endeavour in music I haven't yet listened to... though the backstory of that "band" is something worth contemplating on its own...

I could probably put a couple hundred songs here, cuz they all fit different moods and situations, hence they're all my favs :p

Zebrahead - Playmate of the Year. Song about a boy and his Playboy Mag. I just find it funny as hell. The Blink182 thread reminded me of it.

3 Doors Door - Here Without You.

30 Seconds to Mars - Was it a Dream?

Arctic Monkeys - I Bet You Look Good on the Dance Floor.

Asteria - A Lesson in Charades

Billy Talent - Surrender

Blink182 - Adams Song

Blue October - Hate Me

City and Colour - Sometimes (I Wish)

Dashboard Confessional - Vindicated

The White Stripes - You Don't Know What Love Is.

Krypteria - You & I (couldn't find a Youtube link. So the link goes to the lyrics. it's a weird Gothic/Rock/Techno/Orchestral Duet bad break up song. It's so odd I can't help but like it.

Incubus - Wish You Were Here.

Lifehouse - Trying. Not the proper video.

Thats enough for now. :p

Edit: two more.

Green Day vs Oasis - Blvd of Broken Songs (I love mashups and remixes )

Linkin Park vs Britney Spears - Faint Toxic.

I don't want it, I just need it, to breathe, to feel, to know I'm alive.

Never take life to seriously.. No one gets out alive in the end anyway.

Here's a sample of the kind of music I like. It's simply called "good."

YouTube - David Usher - Black, Black Heart

I like techno, rock, pop, alternative (I guess that's a category that includes stuff like the song I linked? Or would that go under rock?), some rap, and pretty much anything that really strikes my fancy, which can range from country to its opposite (rap?), haha.

Hey!!! Check this out!

MySpace.com - Eric Whitacre - Los Angeles, US - Classical / A'cappella / Electronica - www.myspace.com/ericwhitacre

Listen to "What If" from the "Opera Electronica" called "Paradise Lost".

This exemplifies my hopes for what post-modern art and music might become.

Paradise Lost

I wish I could see it soo badly! But alas, it debuted in LA last summer and I doubt it will make it to the East Coast soon. I hear word that they are working on a recording though.
