Whenever I'm waiting for the bus, I look up to make sure there aren't any birds around.
Not because I love birds or I fear them,
but because I envy them.
I envy birds.
They're free and ignorant.
It's hard to not linger on how they only do a few things.
Yet, when I think of fish, I pity them.
I pity fish.
They're trapped and stupid.
They have only so much room to go and they only do a few things.

That's when the contradictions come in.
Birds and fish are practically the same.
Sure, they do their things in different environments,
but they're the same.

When I'm waiting, I make sure there aren't any birds because I dislike acknowledging how hypocritical the extent of my black and white thinking can get.
I dislike knowing that most, if not all, things are some shade of gray.
Because then I can't tell if I'm flying out of control or drowning in misery.

Which is basically the same thing.

I’ll tell you how the sun rose by Emily Dickinson

I’ll tell you how the sun rose, -
A ribbon at a time.
The steeples swam in amethyst,
The news like squirrels ran.

The hills untied their bonnets,
The bobolinks begun.
Then I said softly to myself,
"That must have been the sun!"
But how he set, I know not.
There seemed a purple stile.
Which little yellow boys and girls
Were climbing all the while

Till when they reached the other side,
A dominie in gray
Put gently up the evening bars,
And led the flock away.

Blackbird in Fulham, by PJ Kavanagh

A John the Baptist bird which comes before
The light, chooses an aerial
Toothed like a garden rake, puts a prong at each shoulder,
Opens its beak and becomes a thurifer
Blessing dark above dank holes between the houses,
Sleek patios or rag-and-weed-choked messes.

Too aboriginal to notice these,
Its concentration is on resonance
Which excavates in sleepers memories
Long overgrown or expensively paved-over,
Of innocence unmawkish, love robust.
Its sole belief, that light will come at last.
The point is proved and, casual, it flies elsewhere
To sing more distantly, as though its tune
Is left behind imprinted on the air,
Still legible, though this the second carbon.
And puzzled wakers lie and listen hard
To something moving in their minds' backyard.

OK - for EJCC:

Canticle of the Dragon

From Dragonlance Chronicles Volume 1: Dragons of Autumn Twilight
Novel by Margaret Weis & Tracy Hickman, Poetry by Michael Williams

Hear the sage as his song descends
like heaven's rain or tears,
and washes the years, the dust of the many stories
from the High Tale of the Dragonlance.
For in ages deep, past memory and word,
in the first blush of the world
When the three moons rose from the lap of the forest,
dragons, terrible and great,
made war on this world of Krynn.

Yet out of the darkness of dragons,
out of our cries for light
in the blank face of the black moon soaring,
a banked light flared in Solamnia,
a knight of truth and of power,
who called down the gods themselves
and forged the mighty Dragonlance, piercing the soul
of dragonkind, driving the shade of their wings
from the brightening shores of Krynn.

Thus Huma, Knight of Solamnia,
Lightbringer, First Lancer,
followed his light to the foot of the Khalkist Mountains,
to the stone feet of the gods,
to the crouched silence of their temple.
He called down the Lancemakers, he took on
their unspeakable power to crush the unspeakable evil,
to thrust the coiling darkness
back down the tunnel of the dragon's throat.

Paladine, the Great God of Good,
shone at the side of Huma,
strengthening the lance of his strong right arm,
and Huma, ablaze in a thousand moons,
banished the swarm of her shrieking hosts
back to the senseless kingdom of death, where their curses
swooped upon nothing and nothing
deep below the brightening land.

Thus ended in thunder the Age of Dreams
and began the Age of Might,
When Istar, kingdom of light and truth, arose in the east,
where minarets of white and gold
spired to the sun and to the sun's glory,
announcing the passing of evil,
and Istar, who mothered and cradled the long summers of good,
shone like a meteor
in the white skies of the just.

Really popular/well known/probably overly done poem but yeah. The first thing I thought of.

Caged Bird
By Maya Angelou
A free bird leaps
on the back of the wind
and floats downstream
till the current ends
and dips his wing
in the orange sun rays
and dares to claim the sky.

But a bird that stalks
down his narrow cage
can seldom see through
his bars of rage
his wings are clipped and
his feet are tied
so he opens his throat to sing.

The caged bird sings
with a fearful trill
of things unknown
but longed for still
and his tune is heard
on the distant hill
for the caged bird
sings of freedom.

The free bird thinks of another breeze
and the trade winds soft through the sighing trees
and the fat worms waiting on a dawn bright lawn
and he names the sky his own

But a caged bird stands on the grave of dreams
his shadow shouts on a nightmare scream
his wings are clipped and his feet are tied
so he opens his throat to sing.

The caged bird sings
with a fearful trill
of things unknown
but longed for still
and his tune is heard
on the distant hill
for the caged bird
sings of freedom.

Oh thats for magpie. It would work for prpl too though I think- you can skip me though for sure.

And would it have been worth it, after all,
After the cups, the marmalade, the tea,
Among the porcelain, among some talk of you and me,
Would it have been worth while,
To have bitten off the matter with a smile,
To have squeezed the universe into a ball
To roll it towards some overwhelming question,
To say: “I am Lazarus, come from the dead,
Come back to tell you all, I shall tell you all”—
If one, settling a pillow by her head
Should say: “That is not what I meant at all;
That is not it, at all.”

To the Looking-Glass world it was Alice that said
“I’ve a sceptre in hand, I’ve a crown on my head.
Let the Looking-Glass creatures, whatever they be
Come dine with the Red Queen, the White Queen and Me!

“Then fill up the glasses as quick as you can,
And sprinkle the table with buttons and bran:
Put cats in the coffee, and mice in the tea–
And welcome Queen Alice with thirty-times-three!”

O Looking-Glass creatures,” quoth Alice, “draw near!
‘Tis and honour to see me, a favour to ear:
‘Tis a privilege high to have dinner and tea
Along with the Red Queen, the White Queen, and Me!”

Then fill up the glasses with treacle and ink,
Or anything else that is pleasant to drink:
Mix sand with the cider, and wool with the wine–
And welcome Queen Alice with ninety-times-nine!

With a bit of luck

A duck

Will come into your life.

When you are at the peak

Of your great powers

And your achievement towers

Like a smoking chimney stack.

There’ll be a quack,

And right at your feet,

A little duck will stand.

She will take you by the hand

And lead you,

Like a child with no defence;

She will lead you

Into wisdom, joy and innocence.

That little duck.

We wish you luck.

There once was an ISTP from London.
Who deserved a better limerick than this one.
I don't even know them. Why am I doing this?
Alright. Ok. Now I'm done.

I hope your mother realizes
You use words that she despises
If you don't go back to bed
You'll regret what you have said

Ok I Will Scream With You
by Ric S. Bastasa

ok i will stand in the corner
and scream with you
but what word shall i use?
your name? my name?
a curse like

what? tell me?
and i will scream with you
like you have never
screamed before.

try me. I can manage
disturbed kids somehow
because i have been there
before you
were born.

Are you Mag, are you pie?

Are you mag?
Feeling blue
Angry at the world
Throwing tantrums at two?

Are you pie?
Stabbed at by Marrie?
She holds a Calander
Isnt she scary?!

Doesnt matter.
You can be both!
A tantrum Baby
and a delicious pastry.

there are many things I want to eat
none of which contain the beet
sadly beets, they taste like dirt
and eating them makes my taste buds hurt
and this is truly a pity
because the color of beets is oh so pretty

magpie is so fly,
resonating light throughout the sky,
the art you weave for us to see,
makes us all filled with glee,
I may not know but you my dear I'll say,
May you have a pleasant day,
Carrying on your elegant way,
The world needs those who know,
What we have to offer is not for show,
As we live and breathe,
As we come and go,
It's another time in lifetimes flow,
Well wishes are our best gifts,
In this days age with such anger and fists,
I'll quit now while I'm ahead,
Sounded corny now that it's said
