I have a desire to improve my current vocabulary, grammar and spelling. Can anyone recommend some books, software or flash cards specifically catered to these items? I've tried using a dictionary alongside my reading material, but I always enter into a more and more distracted state from each interruption. Thanks!

It might sound corny, but it will help with vocabulary. Subscribe to a Word Of The Day website :)

I used to do that. It works. Watching debates or discussion groups involving academics can be a really good way. Especially if it's recorded. Always helps me to get the feel and context of the word right.

I used to tutor for the SAT, and a good SAT prep book will have an excellent vocabulary section.

Any particular favourites? Thanks!

Sesame Street works pretty well, too.

I know, it taught me how pronounce Z the correct way, like Zed.

Hmmm, I'll have to check out some academia videos. Thanks!

Done. I'm now subscribed to Oxford's dictionary. Thanks!

You should consider subcribing to a news paper with a high literacy rate.

I know, that is so 20th century.

Just think about it. NY Times, Wall Street Journal, etc.
They deliver nationally.

Also, you can cheat and get -several- "word a day" things.
Don't tell anyone that I said anything. Shhhhh

There is also an embarrassing wealth of podcasts available.

Such as:

I recommend Strunk & White's The Elements of Style. It's a short, easy read.
