Since you kind of had about 20 movies in there (3 LotR, 3 Narnia, 7 HP), I'll toss in some extras. I enjoy various genres of movies, so the list could include many more... this is more of a sampling cross-section.

Sunshine
Alien
American Beauty
The Fountain
Donnie Darko
Pan's Labyrinth
Endless Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Hero
Kill Bill
The Prestige
Saving Private Ryan
The Abyss
Dave
Contact (extended ed)
The Silence of the Lambs
Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby
The Descent
The Incredibles
Dead Poet's Society

that's tough, since it kind of depends on what mood I'm in at the time...

Clueless

The Addams Family

Who Framed Roger Rabbit?

Dr. Strangelove

Four Rooms

Love Actually

Fargo

The Princess Bride

Shawshank Redemption

American Beauty

probably missing some and probably would change it if I had a few years to think about it, but that'll do for now :)

1. The Man from Earth, South Park: BLU (tie)
3. Up
4. uhm

I legitimately cannot think of any other movies that I'd say are favorites. Hell, I can't even think of seven other movies that I really liked. I'm a spoilsport.

ones I like to watch again....not 10, but oh, well

LOTR
Dr Strangelove
Usual Suspects
Dark Knight
Momento
Matrix (recently rewatched it and enjoyed it greatly)
Princess Bride....I highly recommend As you wish, a new book about making the film by Cary Elwes
Pulp Fiction/Reservoir Dogs
Star Wars (especially episodes 4 to 6)
Raiders of the Lost Ark
Alien and Aliens
Unbreakable(I know M. Night has gone very bad as a director, but this and Sixth Sense were amazing. Plus I highly relate to being a guy who wakes up at midlife to realize he is missing out on much of who he is)
The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly/Unforgiven
Mary Poppins/Sound of Music/Chitty, Chitty Bang Bang

I can't choose ten. Can I do fifteen?

The Princess Bride
Jurassic Park
Psycho
The Third Man
Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade
Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World
Seven Samurai
Amadeus
A Beautiful Mind
Young Frankenstein
Jaws
The Sting
To Kill a Mockingbird
Pan's Labyrinth
The General (although I love pretty much any silent film with Buster Keaton)

The Lord of the Rings trilogy should be on the list somewhere, but I like these individual films more.

And probably O Brother, Where Art Thou?. I quote from that movie all the time.

I have a top five list, which has been static since I was a teenager. They're not necessarily the best films of all time, but they're easily my five favourites:

  • Alien
  • Aliens
  • Back to the Future
  • Ferris Bueller's Day Off
  • Ghostbusters

I have seen each of these dozens and dozens of times and can quote large portions of the dialogue from memory.

Honourable mentions include: Raiders of the Lost Ark, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, Jurassic Park, Jaws, Manhunter, Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, The Empire Strikes Back, The Terminator, Predator, Die Hard and The Thing (1982). Again, I wouldn't characterize any of these as some of the greatest of all time by any means, I'm just fond of them.

Yes, a grave sin. You deserve a thousand lashings with a bull whip now....

I am completely unable to rank things, anything really. The best I can do is type some movies that I happen to think fondly of right now and that I've watched a ton of times:

Groundhog Day
Labyrinth
Hero
Princess Mononoke
Drunken Master (the first one, not Legend, which is good, but not my favorite)
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Breakfast at Tiffany's
Almost Famous
The Princess Bride
Franco Zeffirelli's Romeo & Juliet
