I haven't watched all Star Wars episodes However, According to many reviews, "The Force Awakens" the Movie, has characters, who are worthy for the story. The plot is quite the same but interesting because it has a twist from the other stories. Personally, it has a great action so far and a good film.

It is STAR WARS IN A CAN - dished out with just enough novelty to keep it entertaining.

I should spell out what I meant by my "Star Wars in a can" comment.

The Force Awakens was utterly predictable because it makes use of every Star Wars trope.

Here's some that I noticed during my single viewing of the movie:

There is a bridge over one of Star Wars' omnipresent gulfs that lead to a bright light somewhere down at the bottom. Han Solo and Ben Solo are on this bridge. One of them is going over the side, and we know which one it will be.

Poe Dameron's body was not found after the crash of the tie fighter. No body equals no death. Easy.

A main character is about to be killed and is rescued at the last second.

A main character on a planet covered in sand turns out to be powerful with the Force.

A planet destroyer is destroyed.

I'm sure that with a second viewing I could come up with many, many more.

I watched this movie yesterday. Loved it. The black stormtrooper Finn was my favourite character. He is someone I can relate to in the series. A normal guy just trying to survive and save his friend.

I thought Kylo Ren is a e3. I was sure of it. He seems to want recognition more than anything. I am not saying your typing is wrong though.

Luke destroys a Death Star; Lando destroys a bigger Death Star; Poe destroys the biggest Death Star. Anakin kills (the Jedi's) Younglings; Kylo Ren kills (Luke's) Younglings. Leia, Luke, Han, and Chewie end up in a trash compactor; Captain Phasma ends up in a trash compacter. Poe and Finn steal a ship they're not supposed to steal from a hanger; a young Anakin steals a ship he's not supposed to steal from a hanger. Luke watches Obi-Wan die; Rey watches Han Solo die. The Emperor and Snoke both appear (at first) exclusively via holograms. The Millennium Falcon negotiates tight spaces at top speeds in every film. There's a den of iniquity on Tatooine, and a visually identical one on Takodana (Maz Kanata's home). Rey climbs dangerously on the interior of a Death Star, as did Luke. Han gets shown up (as to military and technical smarts) first by Leia, then many years later by Rey. Obi-Wan disappears where no one can find him but Luke, then Luke disappears where no one can find him but Rey. Kylo Ren and Darth Vader use the Force for an interrogation. The First Order's General Hux is the same Nazi-with-a-British-accent as every Empire officer or petty official before him. Rey falls in love (we think) with a young scamp, as did Padme. The Resistance headquarters seems to be the same movie set as the Rebel headquarters from decades earlier. Poe is a crack shot, like Luke. BB-8 is the new R2D2. Kylo Ren is related to Han, just as Darth Vader was related to Luke.

A few quick thoughts on the movie.

1. The movie works best, for the most part, when it focuses on new characters. Rey is a particularly compelling protagonist. I'm interested in the further adventures of these characters, which is ultimately what the movie needs to do to be successful. For the most part, the bits with the old characters felt like fan service and were kind of distracting.
2. The exception to this is Luke Skywalker and R2-D2. These characters were utilized well. They were crucial to the plot, yet used sparingly. I'm interested to see more of Luke Skywalker, Jedi Master in the next movie. I was also pleased that they didn't run to the well of having the venerable Jedi master sacrifice himself.
3. The riffs on plot elements didn't bother me. I expect the next movie will be more daring in that respect. To me it seemed like this was something they did to signal to people that this would be more like the OT, and less like the prequels.
4. Apparently that structure at the end is the first Jedi Temple

For now it's going to be all the consctructive review from me. Maybe I will came back and write more later.

My take on it was similar to [MENTION=4660]Vulcan[/MENTION]'s. Whenever the old characters appear or are mentioned, I felt like the new characters were experiencing it as though they were fans placed inside the Star Wars universe (that sums up how the whole film felt to me).

An obvious example occurred when Finn and Solo captured Phasma. Finn is literally acting like a fanboy who won a contest to appear in the new movie. It was funny how Han had to tell him to calm down.

That said, that approach is part of what made the film fun, when it wasn't overdone. I liked experiencing the film through the eyes of the new characters and their excitement was contagious. It made for some great moments but also for some really obvious "fan service" moments, but at least the fan service never felt as awkward or forced as it did in the prequels, where it felt like Lucas was lazily incorporating the sort of jokes and references he thought people would want to see.

Otherwise, the criticisms I'm reading of the film seem misplaced. Some people have said Rey and Finn are too perfect, but I thought each had plenty of flaws to overcome. The other major criticism is that it replicates the plot of episode IV. This is only partially true, but I don't think it's a bad thing. There were parallel and converging themes and tropes between VII and other SW films, and it was fun to identify them and see how this film fits into the greater hero's journey of the entire series. I don't expect originality at this point and anyone who complains of unoriginality in franchise fantasy sci-fi should probably avoid franchise movies to begin with.

I like how Ren is a villain in the making. We never really see that with Vader, so Ren gives us an idea of how Vader may have acted in the early years of the empire. It's far more interesting than if they'd given us an experienced, TRUE evil, fully-formed, cardboard cutout villain--I commend the writers for not taking the easy route. I'm also curious to learn more about Snoke, who I think may be connected to the prequels

I noticed it in at least one scene.

You can't make a Star Wars film and not use the Wilhelm. That would be like sushi without wasabi or atoms lacking nuclei.
Reminds me of how Bond villains scream when they fall

I saw this movie tonight. Not bad, overall, though certain elements seemed like they should have been more emotional and just fell flat to me. Despite all the criticisms of the prequels, Anakin Skywalker was more emotionally complex and compelling than Kylo Ren. Revenge of the Sith was a better movie, imo.

I took my boys today. Still digesting. I had been very worried about out with J.J. Abrams at the helm (I have serious problems with his Star Trek movies), so I was pleased here.

Initial thoughts

-it captured the feeling of episodes 4-6.

-Rey, Po, and Fin were well cast.

-the story was light, very light, but so was episode 4. The action was perfect.

-Ren is much more complex than whiny Anakin, imo. Han and Leia moments were good. The moment on the bridge was predictable, but the expressed feelings of Han resonated in me. That said, I wouldn't have gone out on that bridge and I feel he felt forced to do so to accommodate Leia.

-Rey is a really good character, but her ability to instantly use force powers felt odd. Luke needed training before he could do anything, but she can influence weak minds and use telekinesis and defeat Ren with zero training????? Seemed odd....

-Fin is a very good character. His path is very nicely done.

I didn't feel the ending was weak....I liked that it didn't have dialog....It made it more powerful.... and left it open....

Anyway, I enjoyed it.

This movie overall sucked but was carried through by the excellent film production and directing. The screen play was total garbage and it felt like I was watching a patch job on to the true story of the Skywalker family.

It was loaded with political agendas and clearly made to appeal to the greatest common denominator, the lowest quotient of intelligence, and the most superificial aspect of the collective psyche.

I would give this movie a summary of Toy Story filtered by Star Wars scenes. Overally, it was dismal. The Han Solo and Lea Skywalker love thing was brutal to watch and I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemies.

The movie had great scenes though that seemed to be pulled out of a comic book and above average, ableit not great, acting on behalf of the new protagonists - who it was very hard to feel anything for, even for the most empathetic of us.

The movies with Anikin were pure garbage too...but at least Anikin was a much better and more interesting character than any of the new ones in these movies.

Overall, I do not mind that Star Wars has become a crap fest for it never tickled me after the first three that were made in the seventies.
