So, there's a bit of a furore going on in Australia at the moment over this song. Mainly because one of its participants is a judge on a show called the "X-Factor" (its kind of like Idol, i have no idea if other countries have similar things), and in that capacity mentors young (and often female) contestants throughout the show.

Apparently it's satire, and perhaps if the requests being made of the girls were different, the refrain of "literally, i can't" would be better used. I understand the stereotype of the "snotty sorority girl", and the mocking of a phrase like "literally, i can't" or "i can't even", however, the lyrics and the imagery used seem to re-enforce that girls are there to be looked at, groped at, videoed and not heard. Shut the fuck up and do what i say, seems to be the pervasive message throughout.

If some guy at a party started asking me where my friends were and would i like some 'girl-on-girl' action I would be more than a little fucking creeped out, especially since when LITERALLY BEING TOLD NO, the girl is instructed to "Shut the Fuck Up" and i don't really see the 'satire' in that.

As the video progresses the girls of LIC are one by one "freed" from their tight ass inhibitions via alcohol and stripping off layers of WASP-ish clothing. Wrestling in an inflatable pool and at one point i assume being filmed and put on "red tube" - which is porn. Yeah. Not Twitter. A Porn site. When the last remaining LIC virtually runs out of the party, she is harassed and surrounded by many men MUCH bigger than her, all yelling at her to "Shut the Fuck Up". And it's all in fun?

Fuck. That.

Lyrics:

Hey! Ladies and Gentlemen, it’s time to Party!
So that means, while I’m at my motherfuckin’ table
and I’m tryin’ to dance, don’t fucking talk to me!

Let’s Go!

A shot of Vodka?
I can’t
Tequila?
I can’t
At the party?
I can’t
Literally, i can’t (ew)
Literally, i can’t (ew)
Literally, i can’t (ew)
Literally, i can’t (ew)

Literally, i can’t

Wanna Dance?
I can’t
Where yo friends?
I can’t
Girl on Girl?
I can’t
Literally, i can’t (ew)
Literally, i can’t (ew)
Literally, i can’t (ew)
Literally, i can’t (ew)

Oh my GOD, SHUT THE FUCK UP
SHUT THE FUCK UP

Redfooo! Let’s rock!

Yo! We in the club
We bottle poppin’
we sippin’ that bubbly
we party rockin’
You got a big ‘ole butt
I can tell by the way you walkin’
but you annoying me
Cause you talkin’ URGH

Shut the fuck up

Bounce on the pogo
Jump on the jack hammer
Get low low low
While i instagram ya (everyone realises what happens when most girls bounce right? their fucking tits fly everywhere, nice one. asshole. you're taking pics of girls flying tits)
Shhhhhh…
Don’t talk about it, be about it
Work it, and twerk it, and maybe i’ll tweet about it
They'll read about it
And you could be winnin'
I said jump on the pole
I didn't mean your opinion
Gurrrrl I'm sippin' on this drink
I'm tryna see what you got
Not tryna hear what you think

A shot of Vodka?
I can’t
Tequila?
I can’t
At the party?
I can’t
Literally, i can’t (ew)
Literally, i can’t (ew)
Literally, i can’t (ew)
Literally, i can’t (ew)

Oh my god! SHUT THE FUCK UP!

Shut the FUCK UP!

Look I’m trying’ to get your fine ass on the dance floor
Girl i wanna see you get low, low
over here then bring it up slow
your booty in my hand is my new motto
you got the face of a model
put your lips on my bottle
Let me see you take it to the head
Girl I know that you can
I don't wanna hear no
Girl have you heard of my new super friends?
Play-N-Skillz, Redfoo and Lil Jon they comin' in
And turn the party to a crazy mad house
Going all night until I just black out
After I do all that we can make out
Girl you know what Enertia all about

A shot of Vodka?
I can’t
Tequila?
I can’t
At the party?
I can’t
Literally, i can’t (ew)
Literally, i can’t (ew)
Literally, i can’t (ew)
Literally, i can’t (ew)
Literally, i can’t
Wanna dance?
I can’t
Where yo friends?
I can’t
Girl on Girl?
I can’t
Literally, i can’t (ew)
Literally, i can’t (ew)
Literally, i can’t (ew)
Literally, i can’t (ew)

Oh my GOD, SHUT THE FUCK UP
SHUT THE FUCK UP

Oh, also, considering the spate of allegations of rape at Frat parties in the US and frats being suspended for sexual assault allegations, this whole thing just seems poorly thought out.

Never before has a song title so appropriately reflected my own reaction to it. Sad thing is, this is probably going to become a huge hit.

That was pretty much my reaction.

Literally I can't watch this video in its entirety. I need eye and ear bleach.

This isn't satire. People who are saying it is are probably just trying to defend it for liking it.

Idk why this song is even worth the controversy. It seems like just another misogynistic EDM song that frat boys play at their parties but no one actually wants to listen to.

It's funny because I know some sorority girls that party the hardest.

I think the video combined with the song is supposed to be making fun of people who think people who go out and party are "beneath them" but it still does a shitty job of doing that. The parts of the lyrics you put in bold just seem to further exemplify male entitlement. I mean...I like to party a lot too, but there are some aspects of that whole scene that are still fucked up.

Whatever though, my guess is that this song will be irrelevant in a month and only a filler track on some guy's party playlist.

I am living in a strange time. Such peculiar individuals who finds peace and tranquility in listening to such a putrid defilement of refined sensibilities. If we were to physicalise this music into solid matter, we'd be dealing with some sort of waste dump.

Edit: Excuse my language... I'm super sleepy.

I suppose the satire is in the exaggerated portrayal of all the stereotypes present in the video: primitive party people meet haughty-prude sorority girls. I find it hard to get angry at such a clusterfuck of bad taste, though, especially if the song is even worse than the video. Seriously, the song is awful, something like the five-years-after follow-up to Rebecca Black's Friday.

How dare you speak ill of the lyrical genius that is Friday.

I'm with you Chanay, like what da hell, was anyone in here ever young?

I do have one issue though. Pretty offensive. The sorority girls at all the jungle juice Frat parties I went to in college were NOT constipated uptight straight, um, tennis club members. More like, freak nasty drunk hos. The end of the video did redeem this dastardly misrepresentation (I laughed at the RedTube app, haha).

And yes Chay, the "STFU" is supposed to be, "hey loosen up it's a party" for all the elderly confused people horrified that these lascivious youngsters are engaging in, and perpetuating youngsters to be lascivious. I haven't seen such shocking lewdness since whatever club song came out on Top 40 last week.

I have no issue with lascivious lewdness at all. None. Jesus, what feels like half this fucking forum has seen my boobs - they're spectacular.

My most recent avi was pulled down for having exposed nipples. I've been infected for posting dancing penises. In the past I've frequently posted far more 'lewd' videos than this with full enjoyment of them.

It's not the suggested 'lewdness' that bothers me, it's everything else BUT the damned lewdness.

Right, I feel the same way. No one's sexuality or the lack thereof is anyone's damn business (with obvious exceptions for pedophilia, etc.) And no, "shut the fuck up" is really not a legit answer to your desires, expectations and sense of entitlement being thwarted.

I really don't know whether or not I should be worked up about this. On the one hand, it's vile. On the other, it was obviously written to court controversy from "SJWs" or whatever. And yet again, yes, there are dozens of songs like this on the radio so it's not new but if anything, that makes it worse because it runs the real risk of being normal rather than niche. And yeah, it's still vile.

EDIT: Also, dancing penises, bahahaha.

The biggest issue I have with your post is that I'm apparently a part of the half that has not.

Life will go on. Probably.

Jesus. Fucking autocorrect. That's meant to be 'infracted' not 'infected'.

The dancing penises were SO worth the infraction.

I think clothed boobs and butt are still around the place, buried somewhere in 2010.
