Upon my buddy's recommendation, I had the pleasure of reading the book, Journey to the end of night, by late Louis-Ferdinand Celine.
To be honest, I've never read anything like it. Even Dostoevski's novels felt to pale in comparison next to it. It's extremely engaging...there's something about the author's style of storytelling that captivated me. I don't usually mark passages in books I read but I've marked about 20-30 pages in this one. The author has this very accurate anecdotal deductions about life and people that made me say "damn, he's right..".
He also had a cat named Bébert appearently.
Anyway, I'd strongly suggest everyone to give this one a try.
