Well, at least The Lone Ranger won the VES Award for Best VFX in a Supporting Role.

And you know what song should've been nominated? The one in Oblivion.

Thank you, Hal Needham.

Thank you, Ray Harryhausen.

And thank you, Roger Ebert...for finally dying.

It's the "burden of representation". If there were more transgender characters on film, each one could just be their own person and not need to tick all the boxes.

Yeah, I think that's part of it. I think one issue is that they muddied definitions between transwoman and transvestite/queen and it doesn't go over well.

I also saw one of them busting on Chloe Sevigny on FB for referring to "trannies" , even though Sevigny's portrayal of a transwoman in "Hit & Miss" I thought was pretty damned good -- and there was an interview where she said she cried every time they glued on the prosthesis... which is pretty spot on.

... anyway, wtf, it's almost midnight EST and they're still not done??

Looks like Gravity is teh shit, it locked up a number of awards this year. No big surprise.

EDIT: Well, look at that: Cate Blanchett. Good for her.

EDIT2: and now the McConaughssance....

EDIT3: BTW, are we sure they didn't get Spike Jonze' scripts confused and meant to select "Bad Grandpa" as the Oscar winner this year? That screenplay was gold.

Will Smith didn't apologize for After Earth? Unforgivable.
