Lee Hazlewood is underrated and overlooked.

He's amazing, but nowadays all tha kids interpret his stuff as kitch even if they do get a chance to hear it.

Good album.

It's possibly my favorite Dylan album. Most people will list Blonde on Blonde as his best...nope, not me. Desire and Nashville Skyline are the ones I always return to when I'm in a Dylan mood

In fairness, he does border on kitsch, but that's perfectly fine. No musicians should ever take themselves too seriously.

If the kids today could get past the kitsch element of his music, they'd realize he's one of the most talented songwriters to come out of the 60's. Better yet, forget getting past the kitsch. Embrace that shit head-on

But who was Highway 61 Revisited or my personal favorite: Bringing It All Back Home?

Well, he actually skirts the line in ways. There's a real sincerity in his music, and that paired with self-reflectiveness and humor does make for some kitch factor. But songs like this one looses so much if you take it as kitch, or enjoy it in any ironic sense...

I didn't mean to imply there was insincerity in his music. :)

Most of his music is quite sincere and honest songwriting. Requiem for an Almost Lady is an incredible break-up album and I can't believe it wasn't written from some sort of personal experience and pain.

Qlip, what I forgot to type in the previous post is that the honesty and sincerity in Lee's music makes the kitsch element that much more awesome.

Those albums certainly have a warmer, more melodic sound. Desire has this really cool atmosphere, and I count Isis, One More Cup of Coffee, and Sara among Bob's best. I wish Golden Loom and Abandoned Love had made it on the album, though. Nashville Skyline is such a simple, enjoyable album. There's a 90 second song about pie on it, for Christ's sake! I really like it, but it certainly is no masterpiece.

Blonde on Blonde probably has more "great" songs than those two, but it's a bit unpleasant at times. I find Obviously 5 Believers, Pledging My Time, and Temporary Like Achilles grating. I also don't get why everyone loves Rainy Day Woman and Leopard Skin Pillbox hat. They're fun, but not all that special.

P.S. I sort of count the last two tracks of John Wesley Harding as honorary tracks on Nashville Skyline, since they don't fit with the rest of JWH, and NS is awfully short. Just wanted to add that, for some reason.

But who was Highway 61 Revisited or my personal favorite: Bringing It All Back Home?

I've always felt that Bringing It All Back Home gets short-changed when people talk about Bob's electric trilogy. It's my favourite of the three, if not my favourite of all of Bob's stuff.
