18th century Valentine's
these were called 'pocket purse' Valentine's and were all created by men for their lady loves...
[edit: ^^I just realized that these Valentine's are more commonly referred to as 'puzzle purse.' 'pocket purse' would be a less common reference for the same thing.]

A two-year-old African elephant baby climbs on the back of his mother in the Nyiregyhaza Animal Park in Budapest, Hungary, one day after the mother died. The baby stayed near the lifeless body of his mother for 14 hours after her death, and wept after the body was removed.

Two days after Lawrence Anthony's passing (an elephant conservationist who had developed a unique relationship with a wild herd of elephant on the Thula Thula Reserve in Zululand) the wild elephants showed up at his home led by two large matriarchs. Separate wild herds arrived in droves to say goodbye to their beloved man-friend. A total of 20 elephants had patiently walked over 12 miles to get to his South African house.

EJCC haha I think I almost started crying a little bit over how simply adorable/awesome these are. I need to teach myself how to knit, etc. so one day I can make these. I love them...fellow Easter egg fan  (This reminds me I have a photo that made me think so much of you that would go well with this thread. I'll get that off my computer in a bit here...

 You should! I'd teach you, except you probably live too far away from me. It's so rewarding -- I can tell you from experience that knitting colorwork like that is a feast for the Ne. Especially once you've memorized the pattern. It's like when you're about to cook something ambitious, and all the ingredients are laid out in front of you -- you feel like you can already taste it.

Aw, I'm excited to see the pic. :)
