For the last, what, several months or so I've been trying to find a flaw in the Commodores' "Nightshift" and have realized it only from the start but have tried denying as that "perfect" tag can be a tough mental repeal, not that I'm thinking that but there's really no reason why this oughtn't be one that people consider for best song in the modern recording era. But when I glanced at its credits, I noticed that a few outside songwriters composed it for the most part (with apparently a few touches by Walter, the singer), so all of last night and much of today's been spent combing through Dennis Lambert's accomplishments on Discogs with a sort of final these-are-very-good-songs list in mind. Franne Golde also contributed to Nightshift but god knows how much, as she doesn't get much done prior or after 1984; about 1988's where she seems to completely lose it. But Lampert's creative juices never really seem to dry up, getting started with a run of one-off 60s teen singles only to build up an empire through the next decade with the Four Tops (Ain't No Woman) and Glen Campbell (Baby Don't Be Givin' Me Up), recording with the Temptations (Love On My Mind Tonight) and Commodores just before his career tailed off unfortunately. Ends up selling real estate out of Florida in the 90s, a period after which his son gets in touch to do some touring and film a documentary about his dad. Hoping to catch it whenever the circus rolls through town again.

Other than Dennis Lambert, someone inadvertently informed me online that I'd been missing valuable Harry Nilsson tracks, a tip for which I'm grateful:

Above demo reveals subtleties whose absence made the version that turned up on Pussy Cats so unbearably awful.

I'd also like to find this guy's lone full-length tape, so maybe will try contacting regarding availability.

Need another fucking bone to chew.
