I've heard it's stupidly effective given the amount of permanent damage inflicted relative to other forms of torture.
Think they'll show that? Somehow I think they won't.

I know the SEALs are trained to withstand waterboarding.

Also, if anyone has Netflix, I recommend watching this, if you're into this. I saw it and it was surprisingly good.

I believe there are torture sequences in it.

I've heard they show it in an "unflinching" manner (which I'm a big fan of given our country's tendency to want to gloss over the dirty details).

The SEAL's are trained to resist torture and interrogation in their SERE (sic?) training.

However from the accounts I've read, water boarding does an excellent job of bypassing any conditioned resistance in the subject. I think this is supposed to have something to do with how biologically ingrained our fear of drowning is.

Either way, I'm curious to see water boarding in its proper context (ie in an active war zone with strategically valuable [and actionable] intelligence at stake).

Yes, I heard that SEALs and pilots do some training with waterboarding.

overall, I agree with you there. i think the moratorium on not showing coffins is pretty lame, for example.

I'm not about inundating the news unexpectedly with nothing but graphic imagery; however, I think we really need to be able to experience the results (good and bad) of what our actions are over there, and if we can't handle it, then we should stop.

I wish I owned Medal of Honor: Warfighter right about now.
I wanna raid Bin Laden's compound with my online gaming buddies.

    Absolutely. No one wants that.

    Certainly.

The rub however... is deciding what we can handle.

Or more specifically, how to reconcile the information gap, (i.e. the gov'ts access to classified info re: active intelligence operations etc.. that the general public is unaware of) between the gov't and the public.

Most important I think, is determining how to suss out the extent to which the gov't uses classification as an excuse to cover up morally or financially questionable actions.

I haven't heard of that, but it wouldn't surprise me. It's not too hard to demonstrate.

    Should be a good movie.

On the subject of torture, I don't know how I feel about it.
