Along with a dozens of women moaning in unnamed trance/house songs & the chilling vocals dropped in all of the good blackgaze/black metal that I enjoy.

I want to post an answer, but I don't think I can without seeming like even more of an idiot...

BE STRONG!!!

EDIT: Well, if we wanna go "old school," I think Linda Rondstadt has one of the most versatile voices I've ever heard.

I can't stand Gwen Stefani's voice. I don't know why everyone loves her so much.

Beth Ditto!

I'm not a huge Gossip fan but "Standing In The Way Of Control" is an awesome song. She's a powerhouse.

Edit: Another vote for Amy Winehouse and Imogen Heap. And has anyone mentioned any 60's female vocalists? Maddy Prior?

Another edit: I'm a fan of this obscure prog rock band -- National Health -- and I love their lead singer's voice. She sounds like a boy soprano. (Her name's Amanda Parsons, btw)
