Wye Oak - Jenn Wasner. Great singer and songwriter. Her melodies and lyrics are amazing.
Regina Spektor - I don't know too much about her, but I like her style a lot. She is unique.
Feist - Such a poet and natural singer. She can sing about anything and make it sound great.
Florence and the Machine - She is a good singer, but her lyrics are really great.
There are so many I like, but my mind has gone blank for now.
I think that KAREN CARPENTER was a great singer, and a great drummer too. She was a great musician who died far too young...:(
Lady Gaga is an amazing talent. Her pop stuff doesn't do justice to it. I don't care for her pop stuff, but she can write her own ticket in entertainment, based on her raw horsepower.
I always liked how Pink sings. She can belt it out and her tough girl persona is cool.
How could I forget: Veruca Salt! 90's nerd-girl hard-pop from Chi-Town
Siouxsie from Siouxsie and the Banshees.

So I only have her first two albums (didn't even know there were two later ones), but I really like Shivaree too.

Stevie Nicks, Jewel, Janis Joplin, Fiona Apple. There are plenty of others, but those just came to my mind first.

Links to go with my earlier post:
Beth Ditto!

I'm not a huge Gossip fan but "Standing In The Way Of Control" is an awesome song. She's a powerhouse.
And has anyone mentioned any 60's female vocalists? Maddy Prior?
Another edit: I'm a fan of this obscure prog rock band -- National Health -- and I love their lead singer's voice. She sounds like a boy soprano. (Her name's Amanda Parsons, btw)

Ariana Grande
Kelly Clarkson
Ingrid Michaelson
Aretha Franklin
Renee Olstead
Regina Spektor
Jennifer Hudson
Adele
Carly Rose Sonenclar - she may be only 13 but she's going places!
Christina Aguilera
Mariah Carey

Imogen Heap/Frou Frou
Corinne Bailey Rae
P!nk
Reba McEntire
