Torture: The Grand Conspiracy by Malise Ruthven

I found it in the sociology section of a used book store, and it's better than I though it would be. The thesis is that torture is almost always associated with some form of conspiracy, whether it be organized or led by fanaticism. The author supports their argument by analyzing the evolution of torture, starting with ancient Greece and ending in Stalinist Russia.

    I am reading army manuals.
"Where can you flee? What road will you use to escape us? Our horses are swift, our arrows sharp, our swords like thunderbolts, our hearts as hard as the mountains, our soldiers as numerous as the sand. Fortresses will not detain us, nor arms stop us. Your prayers to God will not avail against us. We are not moved by tears nor touched by lamentations."

I'm now reading Curb Your Enthusiasm - The Book (obviously).

It's a collection of summaries of each episode with comments by the actors etc and biographies of some of the key characters.

The Lucky One - Nicholas Sparks.

Filled with tender romance and terrific suspense, THE LUCKY ONE is Nicholas Sparks at his best—an unforgettable story about the surprising paths our lives often take and the power of fate to guide us to true and everlasting love.

Douglas Adams - The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.

After that I hope 'The Art Of Speedreading People' will have come in.

Just finished A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini, now reading Jhumpa Lahiri's Interpreter of Maladies.

Definitely planning on rereading the Harry Potter series before the sixth movie next month.
