    Default Indie films!

We're each very different individuals, and I am curious what are some good independent films you're into I could check out? I don't watch many big movies, I like to keep it a little varied. The last movie I watched was "He died with a Felafel in his hand" and it was really great, I'd suggest it. So! What are your favorites?

Ooh, I liked He Died With a Felafel too.

Lately I've liked Submarine and Dirty Pretty Things. Submarine is a delight and Dirty Pretty Things is, hmm, just that.

I don't know if I'd call it an indie film but I quite liked Melancholia too.

I know I keep a list of fave movies somewhere... I'll dig it up and hopefully be back later. Yay for good movies!

I'm a big film buff so I can list endless ones. However your definition of indy film might not be the same as mine - perhaps you want more obscure ones or might not want to watch older films. So I'm just going to have to assume these will apply:

    Slightly more known/mainstream
    United 93
    Amelie
    The Pianist
    Brokeback Mountain
    Closer
    Gosford Park
    Notes on a Scandal
    Evil Angels/Cry in the Dark
    Memento
    Donnie Darko
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
    The Professional/Leon
    The Hurt Locker
    Lost in Translation
    Little Miss Sunshine
    Match Point
    Gone Baby Gone
    Garden State
    Little Children
The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford
    The New World
    The Hours
    Once
    Doubt
    Capote

    Less known/mainstream
The Diving Bell and the Butterfly
    The Red Violin
    The Visitor
    Y tu mamá también
    All about My Mother
    Pan's Labyrinth
    Old Boy
    Downfall
    The Secret in their Eyes
    Walk on Water
    Whale Rider
    Heavenly Creatures
    In My Father's Den
    Boy
Out of the Blue (I'm getting carried away with the NZ films now )
    The Three Colours series
    Orlando
    The Lives of Others

Ok... I better not get carried away.

    I've dreamt in my life dreams that have stayed with me ever after, and changed my ideas;
they've gone through and through me, like wine through water, and altered the colour of my mind.

I just saw The Future, directed by Miranda July and Drive, directed by Nicolas Winding Refn, a really promising up-and-comer.

    Excellent films!

I'd also recommend Blue Valentine and Submarine.
