Oh, that's good a very good theory--because the house DOES seem to pretty much be doing to people what it wants, treating people like pawns. It would make sense that the house projects Moira in a certain way to Ben, especially given his past. I wonder if Old Moira was aware of it, based upon the convo about firing her. She seemed to have all the answers, and was pretty calm until she became aware that she wasn't going to be able to calmly talk her way into staying.

Not sure about the burned man, either. He asked for a thousand dollars, which you wouldn't think a ghost would need--but then if some of the other characters are perceived as full-bodied humans, maybe they can interact with people who aren't in the house, too.

Tate is super creepy...but he seems to genuinely care about Violet. I definitely think he's a) a ghost, and b) probably Constance's son.

It's kind of weird to think about so MANY murders having happened in the house over the years, though, seeming unrelated to each other. You would think the lore about that house would overshadow any other mystery house in the universe, if it were actually true. It would be more famous than the Sharon Tate house, as far as people being interested, and people not being able to keep stuff quiet enough to sell it.

Well, I'm confused about old vs young Moira... my impression is that older Moira is the "real Moira" because she aligns with the attitudes of the younger living Moira we've seen -- mortified at the advances of men, just wants to keep her job, etc. But the young Moira that Ben sees seems more to me like some manifestation of the Murder House itself... like it's using/twisting Moira and projecting her as young and sultry... and maybe it was doing that with young living Moira too when Constance's husband wanted her. But I think it's some effect of the house, whereas the real Moira -- now dead and ages -- isn't consciously doing it.

Miora tells Vivien, "Men see what they want to see, but women see into the soul of the person", so that might explain why the dudes she her as irresistible.

I also don't know about the burned man either -- whether he's just dead, or imaged, or both, as was said earlier. He certainly seems to do things that are convenient for Ben. It will be interesting to see what happens when Hayden comes back, which she most assuredly will, and how Ben will respond because now he won't be able to get rid of her.

The juries still out on that one but one thing's for sure, he is definitely convenient for Ben.

The big question -- How MANY ghosts are attached to the house? Are they all just ghosts? or something worse? Tate creeps me out too.

So far, I'd say Ben, Miora and Nora (the first lady of the house). I'm sure I'm forgetting someone but oh well. lol

It is! I really enjoyed this ep--though I'm still a bit confused about Moira. She was innocent when Constance killed her, basically--it was the husband who was at fault. But she's clearly coming on to Ben, and I'm not sure what she has to gain by it. Constance clearly still has a hold on her--is she making Moira break Ben and Vivien up for some reason? LOVED the scene in the kitchen with Moira, Ben and Vivien, as Ben accused her of trying to seduce him at every turn. Connie Britton's facial expressions were priceless.

Constance probably knew they were fooling around before she caught them at it again and Constance didn't care at that point if Miora was resisting his advances before she shot her. Constance will always blame the maid for breaking her heart. Now that the gazebo has covered Miora's body, there's not as much of a chance for someone to find her and release her spirit. I am curious why Constance has such a connection with the house and a hold on Miora myself. Just further proves that there are many stories to be told here, unlike what critics were saying regarding the story line would best be served as a mini series. I'm sure the producers can string us along for AGES! lol

Second favorite part of this episode was the dialog between Miora and Constance.

Miora: I don't want to be here anymore. I miss my Mother.
Constance: You think I want to stay in this world of death and rot? Try to find some dignity in the situation.
Miora: I want to but I can't.
Constance: Move on missy! When I find my heart breaking for you just a sliver, I remember that you made this mess for yourself and every time I see that ghostly eye, I am reminded that I was and continue to be, a hell of a shot!
Miora: You need to pay for what you've done.
Constance: Oh, I do. Every goddamned day.

For a moment there I thought Constance might be a ghost as well, and she still may be, but the realtor saw her and not Tate so I'm not sure.

Constance probably knew they were fooling around before she caught them at it again and Constance didn't care at that point if Miora was resisting his advances before she shot her. That was pretty interesting, the dialogue between Moira and Constance. I assume Constance now sees Moira as her older self, too (because WE see her that way when they're alone, and Constance mentions the ghostly eye), though, which brings up an interesting point, since Constance looks the same and the shooting only occurred in 1983. It's kind of interesting how they've chosen to dress Moira as if she's from the 1920s, and Constance as if she's from the 1960s.

I think that as a rule, people seem to be able to see these ghosts.

1. The murder/suicide was actually a double murder by Rubbersuit freak.
2. Moira just killed her mom; luckily for her she moved on, but poor Moira can't.
3. Hayden's back from her cozy little home under gazebo and is still making calls to the house. (Criminy, I hate it when that happens, what's the point in murdering anyone if they Just! Don't! Stay! Dead!??) I think things will get uglier. And Vivien can't pull a Fatal Attraction because Hayden's already been offed once! Oh noes!
4. The thing in the basement that killed the twin boys in the pilot and scarred Pretty Bitch High School Girl Bully is apparently the Frankenbaby of the insane abortionist who built the house.
5. Ben is arguably more emotionally screwed up than Tate at the moment.... although he apparently still does not "go both ways."
6. Vivien is carrying Rubbersuit's demon baby from hell, which might go to full term within about 12 weeks and looks creepy enough on the ultrasound to knock out the attending nurse.
7. Bye-Bye Addy... .... or should we be saying, "Hello?" since she'll now get to live in the house full of all her wonderful friends? At least she got to be pretty for one episode.
8. Larry is a terrible businessman -- he should be collecting money upfront, not after he does the work.
9. Violet is.... somewhere. But I have no clue where. The question is, where is Rubbersuit?

Yes I think this is correct. They're referring to this thing as "Infantata" on the show's website. Super creepy! WHAT was he sewing on the babies dead arm?? It looked like an animal part? GROSS! lol

5. Ben is arguably more emotionally screwed up than Tate at the moment.... although he apparently still does not "go both ways."

Yeah, that was an interesting turn. His mental state is definitely declining.

What on earth did the nurse see and why did they LEAVE the hospital without having a look? I'd do the ultrasound on myself before I left!

Yeah, that sucked. I wasn't expecting that. All the more reason to LOVE this show! I'm sorry she was dragged onto the Pet Cemetery like property because she said earlier in the episode that she never wanted to be a ghost. Constance strikes again!

8. Larry is a terrible businessman -- he should be collecting money upfront, not after he does the work.

I don't get why he needs the money if he is dead. I also think he is a real character and not Ben's alter ego, since he appears when Violet is home alone.

9. Violet is.... somewhere. But I have no clue where. The question is, where is Rubbersuit?

Who the fuck would leave their daughter home alone in that house?? Someone call social services!! Also, I can't see Tate letting anything bad happen to Violet AND she is in Halloween Part two according to the previews so I think she is OK.

Favorite quote of the night, "I want to be a pretty girl." Adie is listed in IMBD as appearing in 13 episodes so she will return as a ghost OR maybe she isn't dead.

2. I can't tell whether COnstance is an angel or a devil. What sort of mom does that kind of thing? Yet, she took care of Addy all those years. I mean, uggh, the Pet Semetary reference is pretty much spot-on ... you die in that house, you get added to the spectral menagerie! In any case, that is why Constance is so good... she's too complex to be easily liked or despised.

3. The pretty girl rubber mask was even freakier. Just... uggh!

4. Moira's the only decent character on the show. And Tate actually does want to help Violet.

5. I wonder if Larry's alive too. We've assumed he's dead... but he's seen way outside the house. It's just that no one else seems to respond to his freakish appearance. Still, Violet saw him.

I watched it, and then I couldn't get on TypeC last night! *shakes fist at sky* Okay, here goes:

Jessica Lange is freaking fantastic asdlkjafdsfjlaskdfjalskdjf!!! I am going to need her to win an Emmy for this.

I don't know what Larry's deal is, either--I had presumed he was a ghost, but I really don't understand why he needs $1,000...UNLESS it's because on Halloween, he could do something with that $1,000, since that's the night the dead are allowed to walk the earth or whatever. BTW, I really like that idea for this show. And Did you notice that Tate's promise to take Violet out on a real date also coincides with Halloween? He's totes a ghost.

I was really sad and surprised to see Addy die, but since on this show, no one really dies, it might just get more and more interesting from here. I really like that actress, too. It's cool to see a complex character with Down's who isn't just there to be the Magical Conscience of the Show.

I really like Moira, and I really, really wish she'd had a longer conversation with her mom before Mom crossed over. That could have been very interesting and enlightening. I kind of thought that she was liberating her mom at that time partly because the dead could have their time together on Halloween, and she'd mentioned missing her mom. Frances Conroy is so compelling in this show. I think it's partly her soft, girlish voice.

If I were Violet, I would NEVER agree to stay in the house alone. That was completely unbelievable for me. Last time she and her mom were alone, people tried to break in and murder them. AND she's seen unkosher stuff in the basement. COME ON! </Gob>

The gay couple were an interesting addition. I'm interested to see if they keep coming back. Loved the MY HOUSE showdown between them and Vivien.

HOLY CRAP with the sonogram! What did they see? Fangs? Horns? Glowing red eyes? I want to know! It can't be a Twilight-style rapid-growing baby, b/c Vivien's not even showing.

It bugs the crap out of me that people keep just having a conversation with Rubber Man, as if it's the most normal thing in the world for your husband/lover/whatever to put on a fetish suit without warning and then just stand there creepily without talking. The first thing I'd do is make the person say something to me or take off the mask.

Hayden was super-creepy showing up at the door! I'm not a huge fan of Kate Mara, but I think she'll be more interesting as a ghost than a living nuisance. Also, did the gay couple seem to know why Ben had suddenly built a gazebo? There seemed to be a little knowingness there.

Do we think Constance knew something might happen to Addy in that mask? I mean, it completely eradicates her ability to see anything, and she went trick-or-treating alone. And she wasn't going to let her go until the last minute.

I'm still not sure about the significance of the Infantata. So, Frankenbaby is what's been doing the damage in the basement?

I wouldn't say it's trying to be Lost, but I would say it's definitely using similar narrative devices in order to maintain interest (by creating mystery and controlled release of backstory).

Compare it to Terra Nova, which is more like ST:TNG where the episodes have been self-encapsulated and neatly wrapped up, where there is not yet any real menace, and where everything is pretty much blatant and out there in the open in comparison.

1. Violet's interesting, in that she seems impervious to fear in most respects. I think some of it's counterphobic, but she's probably the mentally toughest character I've seen on a show.

2. THe gay couple obviously is dead, they were the prior house owners, so of course since they're ghosts it's not surprising they know about the gazebo. The house seems to inform the ghosts of relevant info or something...or they observed it.

3. Interesting comment on Larry, in terms of the money. It would explain why he needs the money NOW... since once Halloween is over, it's of no use to him.

4. I do think it's creepy but amusing that gimps and leather doms have become known enough in the culture that it's just considered "kink" by the characters in the story.

5. Good note about Tate and the "real date" coinciding with Halloween. I think the aspect of guessing who's alive and who's dead is part of the fun here.

OH, the realtor! There's talk of her being dead too. Dead or alive, she's definitely tied to the house! I'm getting that the house can pretty much fuck with anyone that enters it but outside of that, the ghosts can't leave the house and we haven't seen the realtor outside of the house. So, if the characters can leave the house they're not dead. Got it!
