I'm just jealous and lonely over the fact that I made a thread for a significantly more in depth and interesting show (Twin Peaks) that nobody else seems to be watching.

Meanwhile this show has close to 200 pages of people spanking it to a bunch of one trick Te/Fi character ponies all competing with each other over who can be the biggest megalomaniac piece of shit (I'm pulling for Danarys).

Make a thread about it. I'd post. I love Twin Peaks! The Pendereki Threnody episode was amazing.

I don't understand how everyone and their brother is so into this low brow faux complicated trash TV show. It barely escapes the definition of pornography to qualify as art...which I suppose answers my own question.

The show doesn't conform to many dramas that engage in "plot insurance" of keeping favored characters from harm or death. Which makes for unpredictability.

This coming from a person who made a thread called "it hurts but i like it".
Thank you Ni, for yet another irrelevant aside personal attack thread derail. That thread had nothing to do with sadism (as spelled out in the OP in more than one way), which is an attitude preference I find utterly detestable, and likely contributes to my contempt for GOT.

That was the way it used to be... which was definitely a plus, as frustrating and painful as it always was.

I kinda feel like now everything's getting kind of predictable, unfortunately, and some characters have seemed beyond harm recently and/or the obvious deaths are the ones occurring. it's almost like the Good Guys are winning and/or the tropes are reestablishing themselves at long last. Or maybe the tropes have become rather irrelevant. Once the intricate balance of power finally unraveled and the playing field got cleared, there no longer remained anything to preserve so the specific winner doesn't really matter. Jon? Dani? Others can die and it won't be that shocking anymore.

Obviously I don't think Cersei is going to be the "winner" ... and I don't think the Night King will wipe out Westeros, although I think it's possible that if he ends up having legitimate grievances underlying his trek south, there could be some kind of balance struck...

At this point, it wouldn't be that weird if they all die to stop each other and/or decide they won't want to be the ultimate ruler, and little Lady Mormant ends up being Queen of Westeros.

I guess at this stage I am more interested in deciphering Bran's role in all this, and what the Night King's motivations are, and where Sansa ends up (just out of curiosity) than who actually sits on the throne.

I agree with everything you said here. The main protagonists all have the same goal and have made their decisions. They don't have any real *internal* conflict anymore. So the story is better with characters who hold mystery or their fate isn't in their own hands.

Also, a little part of me always cheers Cersei on.

I know, right! Plus the stuff she's wearing now is total badass/ready for war attire (and I like it). Dany though, she's been wearing pants for awhile and that's like fuck you! to the man.

I strongly dislike GoT and somehow I know everything that happened/happens on the series. Oh lord.

I noticed the more armour-like clothing, too.

I think Dany is a pretty soft character. Dany's brave but her power has always saved her from "rebuilding" herself. She's retained an aura of goodness because of it and that's why she can lead but meh. She's always going to be untested to me.

I like the morally gray characters better. I do see Sansa maybe going the way of Cersei eventually? Her and Jon are butting heads and in big enough ways to form a rift. Either Sansa backs down....which after her experiences with "trusting" others to lead her or protect her...I don't know. Her faith is understandably lost in anyone but herself. I see her finally saying F this. Let me do something different. If so, I wonder what.

Baelish will be there for it, tho. He sees it.

I really really thought the poop scene was kind of funny. Kind of vulgar humor ( I mean for the show that it is )

the laughing part of Arya going to kill the queen hehe.

Oh yeah and Arya just being a plain badass.

SHAME that some of these characters are just going to DIE.

I could see Sansa dying and Baelish moping over her and killing himself.

(my specific memory is just poor, sorry)
Live:
Jon Snow
Danearys Targaryen
Arya Stark
Kingslayer
Tyrion

Dead
Cercei
Sansa
Possibly Baelish
Greyworm

this list isn't meant to be exhaustive or conclusive. :D

Hoo boy

The Unsettling Thing You Missed In The 'Game Of Thrones' Premiere | HuffPost

Probably a worthwhile detail. I remember the line, too.

I like Sansa. But she does learn best through experience and emulation. She was raised one way by her idealist dad, and was sheltered (so that is how she behaved), and then had some huge eye-opening moments that shattered that world for her -- it wasn't true anymore. So she soaks up whoever she's around and learns those lessons. It's no big surprise she soaked up Ramsay's sadism and inflicted it back on him. She learns from living through things.

It's ironic that she was one of the characters I hated most early on (like Carol off TWD), but halfway through the series she started becoming far more interesting and much more resilient/strong.... to what outcome, though? I am not sure where she'll end up on the moral-compass map.

What's left of the Stark kids?

- Bran, the three-eyed raven. (Side note that probably everyone knows so duh... bran = raven in Irish). Who knows what he might yet unleash?
- Jon, who already died and feels like he's living a borrowed life
- Arya, who seems to have lost much of her humanity
- Sansa, whose superpower is sucking up qualities of whoever she spends the most time with... and boy is she getting dark.

Some Stark kids might survive all this, but most of their family got trashed... and possibly even the survivors, they're pretty scarred.

The good thing is there are only six more episodes so it's not much waiting. :D

I wouldn't have another clue, but that sounds like it makes a lot of sense. I am hoping for the possibility it's not though.

I'm about 3/4 through the first episode of the new season and so far think it is pretty boring which is too bad because I love the show. I don't like this 10 episode per season thing. You just really are getting into it and then they end it for 8 months and you have to get into it all over again. The best thing for me was watching the first three seasons over a period of a month when I first discovered the show.

Getting back to the Sheeran thing...

... I guess it can be jarring, if you knew who he was. I didn't, and I was mostly just surprised to hear someone singing with such a good voice on the show, since I don't think that has happened before. But as far as the scene goes, I thought it was useful in (1) giving a bit more complexity to the Lannister troops... the common soldiers are treated as faceless and just mirrors of their commander usually, but they are all actual real people who might not align with the mentality of their superiors and (2) telling us Arya's next plans. So the scene itself maybe could have been trimmed but I didn't see it as fluff per se. It's texture, which the show has been lacking somewhat in the last two seasons.

And I think it's stupid the guy ends up locking his Twitter feed because of all the negative vibes. It's getting old, all the mob scenes. The world feels uglier nowadays. Yeah, it's great to have direct contact with a person you've never met; it also sucks that you can be targeted by thousands of people you've never met. Even if each person only throws one stone, that's thousands of stones. All the Twitter wars about every damn little thing people don't like is just really overstaying its welcome and making things ugly.

Well, you're in luck because this season is only seven episodes, and the very last season will only be six.
... wait, maybe luck isn't the right word.

Yes, maybe the best time I had with the show was leaping in during the middle, so I basically blitz-watched Seasons 1-3 and basically caught up with the airings around the time of the Purple Wedding. The rest of Season 4 was what I hoped for.

I didn't really enjoy Seasons 5-6 on a weekly basis nearly as much.

Still, each episode is like part of a movie in terms of production quality and cost. If you had a cheap TV show with lower production quality, you could afford to pump out 24 episodes a season. Breaking Bad only ran 13 episodes a season at its longest. (Seasons 5ab don't count since they were separated by more than a year.)
