In Season 4 Episode 7

Melisandre is nude in the bathtub with no necklace on. Selyse Baratheon sees her and conversates as normal..

1) which is the most likely, a fault in the writing that the idea of Melisandre later in the show occurred to the writers, that removing her necklace shows her wicked old age..

2) being nude in the water prevents the change from happening

3) Selyse has a special power with her presence nearby which prevents Melisandre from changing..

4) Melisandre has taken a potion to prevent her reversal without the necklace during her bath time period

5) Melisandre's hair went tied up to a pony tail prevents the age change. [least likely]

6) Being near flames or the light keep Melisandre from changing. [2nd most likely]

Was Melisandre's fire out in the episode we saw her age? She was in her room then, and there was a hearthfire in her room, to provide light for the scene.

Like, I'm kind of not even much caring at this point. Either it was a sloppy mistake or... well, there are bigger things I'm curious about at this point....

So, just by the preview for the next episode, does the mean D/aneis becoming a villain? She didn't attack King's Landing, though... She attacked a military target. I was kind of worried for her in the battle..... is she going to go down a dark path, regardless?

Also, WTF was going on between Sansa, Arya and Littlefinger. Was Littlefinger pleased? Why? And why did Sansa seem upset?

Jaimie looked kind of dead at the end, but some other people don't seem to think so.

I don't think she is becoming a villain. I think she hasn't had to confront other leaders like Jon, everyone else has bent the knee with minimal prompting. The one I'm worried about is Tyrion but all is not well. I'm almost thinking Jon is going to end up running things at Dragonstone for a hot minute.

He doesn't appear pleased. They whole thing was weird. Bran made way more sense than Littlefinger.

I don't think she is becoming a villain. I think she hasn't had to confront other leaders like Jon, everyone else has bent the knee with minimal prompting. The one I'm worried about is Tyrion but all is not well. I'm almost thinking Jon is going to end up running things at Dragonstone for a hot minute.

Yeah, I kind of hope not with regards to her. Of course, I do think we will see tension between her and Tyrion, but there's no way he's going to switch sides to Cersei. They always hated each other even before all the stuff happened, and now, pretty sure she would take his head even if Jaime told her the truth.

I thought he was upset at first, but then it seemed like he was grinning like he was during the council scenes. Maybe it was more of a grimace, and I misread it. I wouldn't think he would be happy about Arya being a skilled assassin, so it definitely doesn't make sense for him to be happy about it.

That makes sense. I guess I was thinking that I'd be happy if I two kick-ass bodyguards I can trust, but you are correct that despite their reunion, there was always tension between them.

It's amazing how well fantasy characters can swim in full heavy armor... and a gold hand to boot.

Well, my thoughts -- aside from "Hot damn, yeah, I saw that coming and we've waited a long time..."

The deaths seem telegraphed from a mile away nowadays. If Jaime was going to die, they would have roasted him, not had him conveniently dive into the water. We also know Tyrion saw the whole thing and will of course in the show version of Tyrion make sure someone pulls Jaime out, capturing him. There is also the possibility that Bronn will conveniently pull him out. But it's a non-death pretty clearly... fake threat. It doesn't matter how quickly a guy would drown; with the series currently playing loose and fast with time, this will be a no brainer for an unharmed Jaime. EDIT: God I'm a terrible viewer. Everything happens fast.. but it was Bronn who pulled Jaime's ass off the horse and into the water. That guy really needs his fookin' castle Jaime -- stop horsing around and give it to him.

I'm impressed Bronn only needed one practice shot to take out a flying dragon. Whatever.

I couldn't tell if Littlefinger was grimacing or smiling. But he gave the dagger to Bran before Arya showed up; otherwise I thought it would have been his primary goal to get the dagger passed to Arya, because she will then kill Cersei (from his perspective). I'm a little vague on what his actual goal was with the dagger. i was really hoping that, after he told Bran all that sappy crazy stuff about his mom, that Bran would have just looked at him and told him he was full of shit because he has already seen everything Baelish has done. EDIT: Okay, so apparently "Chaos is a ladder" is a quote Baelish made to Varys in Season 3. So Bran IS talking smack to Baelish -- tipping him off that maybe he knows a lot more about Baelish's private life than Baelish wanted anyone to know.

So all we need now is for Bran to shave his head, and we can start our next incarnation of X-Men / New Mutants. Wolfsbane is already here. So is Jean Grey.

At least they nailed the whole "dragon" thing. As soon as Dany brought one of her dragons, the Lannisters had already lost. It went down just how I expected, and just as gloriously.

We're still seeing messed up time dilation. We just don't get the kinds of indirect cues we used to about passing time on the show. It's almost like Highgarden is two hours walk from King's Landing and Dragonstone is around the corner. Conveniently somehow they got all the wagons of gold to King's Landing first while all these soldiers dragged their asses.

The fight between Arya and Brienne felt somewhat fair in depiction. I like it that Arya got slammed pretty hard with a boot once, but it was a nice recovery.

At the very least, at this point I actually do want to read GRRM's text when it's finally released. I'm not reading all the already published stuff, but basically in a show that now often feels like the Cliff Notes version of the tale, I'm curious what the full take on the story is by Martin himself.

Also, during that last sequence, we finally have people we care about on opposite sides put into conflict with each other. This is one of the first real moments of that I have experienced... where something's gotta give, but I don't want it to, I want everyone to be okay. Anytime any of them are in jeopadry, it's a "NOoooooOoOo" moment. But I have a problem with them not being cutthroat about it, i guess; I don't want to feel like the show is coddling characters because of my investment in them.

I think I've stopped worrying about the geography/time ever since Varys teleported from Dorne to Mereen during the last season finale.
In the book it's like a month to get from Winterfell to King's Landing, at least in Bobby B's wheelhouse.

Like, if he is, then they should have just fried him outright -- blaze of glory. I think we have discussed at least with Martin's pen, a character might die in a way that breaks the trope but typically because they did something stupid sometimes repeatedly... and in this case Jaime charging the Mother of Dragons on his lonesome over a long distance while she stood next to a living fire-breathing dragon, even if it is the "noble" thing for him to do, would definitely be the kind of "stupid" thing that gets characters killed and would also break a trope of people getting away with such stuff in epic fantasy just because they were "acting nobly."

Since they bothered to save him from the flame, the "drowning" just feels like a cheap TV show cliffhanger, versus any real threat to his character. And if they do let him drown, well, it would be stupid for the reason listed above when they could have just fried him more spectacularly. Plus a dumb waste of a character arc.

... interesting thing about Dany, though, that is becoming very obvious now that she's actually doing things.

Yes, she is badass (like when she walked through fire while leaving her enemies to perish) and all that kind of thing.

But here are her assets:

- Her blood lineage
- The things she has done (Breaker of Chains, etc)... typically large scale policy decisions that others have implemented for her
- An army of Unsullied and Dothraki
- Inspiring her followers
- Three really big destructive dragons

Many of the other characters that we follow seem to have [formidable] martial skills of some kind. But it was especially clear during the battlefield scene that

she belonged out there about as much as Sansa does. She is entirely vulnerable, especially if her dragons are not with her or are hurt too badly.

Cersei doesn't have a need to be on the battlefield, but this is her kind of game. She is very happy skulking inside King's Landing and the Red Keep, and pulling strings from a distance, so she's never going to be vulnerable until the last move of the endgame.

Frankly, if I had to choose between Jamie and Bronn surviving - I'm picking Bronn. However, the fact that I read the fucking books ruins these choices for me every time. I want Jamie to live so he can turn his back on Cersei (and Jamie's conversation with Lady Olenna alluded to that) and be with Brianne and all that. I want Cersei to live out her life in a dismal existence (even though I tend to cheer for her a little bit). And I have to admit I want a Bronn/Tyrion reunion.

As far as Dany is concerned, she hasn't had to deal with pitched battle, hand to hand combat on her own. The Unsullied, the Dothraki, riding the dragons always allowed her to be there but not be totally vulnerable (remember when the Dothraki kidnapped her? With a dragon no less). But you know who has dealt with this? Jon Snow. And I don't think he would have torched all the food supplies either, amateur move. She is many things but she is also a novice at this war thing in reality. However, she has seen the huge crossbow Qyburn designed solely to kill her dragons so, she will smarten up for next time.

Yes, I'm feeling like it's almost flirtatious in nature, where she pushes on him very hard sometimes without much reason, and yet he refuses to bend... a weird back and forth as if trying to size each other up and mock-sparring.

I read another recap, and apparently this episode had a few line callbacks. Aside from Bran's (as relayed to Baelish), there is also the line here where she asks whether his pride is more important than the lives of his men, and apparently it's something Jon said to Mance Rayder back in Season 3.
