Default Thinking about playing WoW for the very first time

Any tips? Class recommendations? Recommended tutorial sites? etc?

I know nothing. I have a kickass computer and a respectable internet connection (for Australia). I have no dependents. Help me.

Don't do it... it's not worth it, man!

Okay, that's probably not the advice you were seeking.

The whole leveling and early game process has been wonderfully redesigned with Cataclysm so you won't really need too much help in the way of tutorials to figure something out. In terms of classes, it's hard to know what you like playing, but any class is good/useful in early PvE and such. I play Warlocks and Mages, though I haven't signed on for two weeks...

Well.. if you are going to play it (and I don't recommend it either heh), make a Hunter. Unless anything has changed since I last played, it's probably the best class for soloing and for someone new to the game. Either way, you're not going to screw yourself if you just play what you want. It's just that some classes come into their own much later.

Run! Run before it's too late! It's more addictive than an MBTI forum!

What role would you like to play? A healer? A tank? A damage dealer? Do you wanna use magic, melee, bows, some combination of magic and melee?

Just remember JJJ, WoW isn't a game as much as an engineered behavioral system created solely to cause addiction by exploiting known human trigger / response mechanisms... all so you'll pay that monthly subscription fee.

    Although it does look fun.

I don't even know enough to answer that. I'm going into it with a friend who wants to play a healer though. Neither of us are big pvp fans, so it'd mostly be pve as much as possible. Something that I could solo respectably without a bot army as well for when my friend is afk.

It's a complete waste of time. That being said I still play. I prefer casting and right now I'm working on leveling a Mage. I like her because she has high DPS (damage per second). I prefer horde side to alliance. I hope the game doesn't suck you in, but it did me for at least a year. I'm OK now, and can go weeks without logging on. Who knows, maybe you're looking for a distraction.

All the different classes are fun, just depends on what you prefer. You probably won't know until you try them out.
