Good book about comic books

I'm looking for a gift to get a friend who is very interested in comic books. I think something that discusses comic books and their history or their social impact or something like that would be perfect.

Does anyone here know of such a book?

I haven't read anything like that, but you got me curious. I found this title that looked interesting. Link. Apparently, it's a textbook though, so maybe not what you're looking for exactly (which begs the question: What badass school out there has a course on comic books? And do they teach rock history too? ).
