simply because something is popular does not make it pop.

No, that would be the pre-production, production, and promotion by mostly big labels that would make it pop.

He is on Bong Load records, of the ones he's with. And Loser was a great song. He gets some credit. But is pop.

Beck is trying to be folk/anti-folk cuz it's hip.

I won't disagree that his more recent albums are very pop-like.

But, Odelay and One Foot In The Grave?

At the time it came out it was too experimental to be considered pop.

Of course because we've listened to many of the songs a million times over in the last decade and because of the development of pop music since then most people don't really think of it being experimental. But, at the time it was.

Pre-Odelay... or pre-One Foot in the Grave... it was less poppy. I'll say that.

He should have stayed indie-oriented... would have a lot more cred, and better music.
