I LOVE me some Buck Owens. If you only know him as the guy on Hee Haw, or if you're too young to know him at all, do yourself a favor and root around on youtube. The Buckaroos were a tight but raw honkytonk type country band, and they created the Bakersfield sound, which was very distinct and quite different from what was going on in Nashville at the time (lots of string-based arrangements, etc). Buck Owens had a jillion #1 hits, and basically owned country music in the 60s--and he did it his way. His guitarist, Don Rich, inspired me to take up guitar.

Loretta Lynn. If you don't like Loretta Lynn, I simply don't know what to tell you. She's like an Everywoman Poet. Her songs seemingly simple, but they pack a lot of wisdom and wit. Don't underestimate her. Plus, Loretta is a hoot. Also, you should definitely not, under any circumstances, mess with her man. A favorite:

And a great song from one of the best singers that ever lived, Patsy Cline:

I've often compared Australia to Texas based on my impressions of it from afar, this clinches it.

Why is there such a big country music movement there?

There used to be thought I'm unsure if its that popular in the city music scene these days. Yeah, there is an atmosphere like you say, which is true. Mostly because Australia is vast and there is a lot more country than city landscapes. And in that sense country music would be inspired by the outback rural experiences. There is a popular festival that celebrates country music that's called the Tamworth music festival.

I'm from Texas and a guitar player just like her. I might be 10 years younger, but I can go oldschool if I want. Just felt like listing shit off the top of my head.

I've posted enough in here though. Feel free to be a fucking idiot. :)

Don't make this my responsibility. I'm pretty sure I'm not being sensitive at all. :newwink:
