This one still gets me. I loved it when I was just a child, but now that I'm older and I've lived it, it means that much more.

I remember listening to it in 1976 with my little transistor radio, in my little backyard that was my world, and loving it for some reason I didn't understand yet.

And I still love every note and every word.

Listen to it...

Edit: Oops, there's already a thread like this, but DAMN, listen to that guitar work! And it's 30 years old. Awesome.

Don't know why it's so evocative ... but it brings back 1986 every time ...

ive only really been into music since my early teens, and i was super strong in my faith. I remember my grandmother had recently died and I was very religious. Relient K was one of the bands i listened to on heavy rotation in that era. Although over the years my tastes have changed, every once and awhile i will stumble upon this song and it gives me chills and puts a tear in my eye everytime. it does a terrifyingly good job at applying to the two life changing events of my life.

This song came out when I was 12, and even then it spoke to me about my first crush. The lyrics still break my heart every time. It just really captures something about the rueful feeling of not being cool and thinking the great girls have too many options to pick you.

This has "only" been one of my faves for eleven years or so, but here:

As for childhood favorite songs that we still love:

I had to search a while to find the video that I remembered watching on VH1 when I was, like, six-- could only find it with Spanish subtitles.

This is a song my mom would always play when I was growing up. Not exactly my favorite, but I still like it.

Roots, bloody roots
Roots, bloody roots
Roots, bloody roots
Roots, bloody roooaaaaaahh

I
Believe in our fate
We don't need to fake
It's all we wanna be
Watch me freeeaaak!

I say
We're growing every day
Getting stronger in every way
I'll take you to a place
Where we shall find our

Roots, bloody roots
Roots, bloody roots
Roots, bloody roots
Roots, bloody roots

Rain
Bring me the strength
To get to another day
And all I want to see
Set us free

Why
Can't you see?
Can't you feel?
This is real!
Ahhh

I pray
We don't need to change
Our ways to be saved
That all we wanna be
Watch us freeeaaak!

The first band I really got into was ZZ Top. This is one song that has really stuck with me. Love their early stuff.

This, no question, since childhood:

I second Steely Dan's "Reelin' in the Years," too.

I have about 700. Where should I start?

I was in love with Prince when I was 7. I've always liked this song.

YouTube - Prince - When Doves Cry

Prince ... yes that takes me back to the 80s too ... I was 19 in 1986 and the world was opening wide:

My friend Penny and I went to see "Purple Rain" at the theatre ... LOL! I even had a little crush on Prince, and went out with a guy who kind of looked like him too. But taller. ;)

Miss you dear friend as I think of those times today.
