...

Only the sideways timeline was them being dead, though, right? I don't think the ending meant they all died in the crash... just that they all died at some point after that, as people do, and the flash sideways timeline was a stop they made to reconnect with each other on the way to the afterlife.

I'm not really disappointed. It was evocative.

^ but think about that last scene ... all the wreckage still on the beach, never moved at all.

Perhaps the show was really all about Jack's individual death, and all of this was to test himself, to help himself get to the point of redemption, letting go and moving on.

I guess there are multiple interpretations ... and no doubt they'll fly. But what about all the other characters? The mysterious puzzles, symbols etc.? Why all this detail? Did the writer's actively try to confuse people on the path to writing the series in this way - meaning, was this their master plan and people guessed it so fast (after season 1) so let's obfuscate it a bit and then end it the way we intended anyway ... ??

Just some thoughts ...

More white-out; again, don't quote - merci!

Is it on? I am missing it?

Edit: Hmm it doesn't start til midnight ... grrr, I don't want to stay up that late!

I love symbolism, and I love speculating on it. Most folks know I gave up on LOST a while ago ... but still it captured my attention (esp for the first couple of seasons) in a rare way.

I assumed you were watching it since what you said in your whiteout up there is almost word-for-word what JK said to Matthew Fox about five minutes ago.

How are you watching it? I'm in CST and it hasn't started yet - the news is in the way!

It's on right now...? The finale was over at 11:30 Eastern, then the news, now JK Live.

Gah - I see it now ... that's annoying, the affiliate I was watching pushed it back to 12.05 - I could have seen it all this time. Ah well. Have changed channels now.

BTW I liked Daniel better as a mathemetician than as a hipster in a tiny hat.

(as always, spoilers at the link, duh)

The Lost Finale Was Incredibly Dumb

LOL:

"So here's my proposal: Let's get another season. We'll all agree to forget the flash-sideways ever existed. Let's just get Ben and Hurley running the island, making jokes and being bros and doing fun things. Is that too much to ask for? Because I don't have anything to be obsessed about anymore. And I really don't want to start watching V."

Seemed pretty straightforward to me. I'm making a point of not overinterpreting it. I'm not spoiling anything here, but I'm taking it as: One place was one place, and the other place was the other. I'm taking it at face value.

I can't believe I am staying up to watch this ... these hokey alternate endings just confirm what I complained about ALL ALONG ... the writers just yanked everyone around ... which makes me happy I never invested much in this show after I resolved to let it go.

Why on earth am I staying up now LOL!

OMG Bob Newhart! Hilarious! He is so funny! "You're not Emily!"

Looking forward to reading more tomorrow ... from the true fans.

Lostpedia's server is overcrowded. Someone quickly formulate a masters thesis length argument! Can be either pro/con the ending.

IMO a significant part of the fun of Lost is the interaction between fans trying to figure out the :wtf: moments. And you can always count on the nerd-specialists to rhapsodize about literature or physics online. Would this series have reached anywhere near the same number of fans before web 2.0?

Argh! I haven't seen it yet. My cable went out today and we won't have it for a couple of days. I'm so upset, :steam:.
I guess I have to wait for it to upload to hulu.com.

Awful, awful ending. The way the 2004 timeline was managed is just HORRIBLE, it serves ZERO purpose. Perhaps they were just trying to fill up some space.

I knew this was going to happen.

There was way too much hype surrounding this show for it to have ended normally.
