I still like the original better, but Deftones didn't do bad.

The cover that most improved on the original is perhaps Nazareth's "Love Hurts" (Everly Brothers).

    Honorable mentions:

Jimi Hendrix - All Along the Watchtower (Bob Dylan)
Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young - Woodstock (Joni Mitchell)
Eye & I - Venus in Furs (Velvet Underground)
They Might Be Giants - Istanbul (Not Constantinople) (The Four Lads)
Devo - (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction (Rolling Stones)
Devo - Secret Agent Man (Johnny Rivers)
Cake - I Will Survive (Gloria Gaynor)
Dread Zeppelin - Heartbreaker Hotel (Led Zeppelin and Elvis Presley)

My favorite song cover has got to be Cake's "I Will Survive." The video is about as classic as it gets. That music videos have gone the way of the Dodo is a sad, sad thing. I hope something like Youtube and amateur video production will revive them...

I mean, they just really bring it. Everything from the bass (rockin'!) to the stupendous guitar riffs, to the horns... Ah, just great. They just totally rock it out.

Slightly in the heart of Valentines day (HA! get it? ahhh...) I like Tori Amos's cover of The Cure's "Love Song." The lyrics are beautiful, and set to piano... I love it.

This cover isn't an official single, but I like it. The real part starts at 0:30.
I was sitting outside the classroom waiting to go in, and I saw an airplane hit the tower. The TV was obviously on. I used to fly myself and I said, "There's one terrible pilot."

Original is from a 1950's musical revue, covered by many different artists but I happen to like this one at the moment.

Nice pick. From Songs to No One, with Gary Lucas, originally written by Edith Piaf. Also covered by many artists.

In Summer the song sings itself...
"And she told you laughing down to her core,
So she would not cry as she lay in your lap,
She said, "Nobody here can live forever
quiet in the grasp of Dusk and Summer"
