I haven't played Table Tennis in a long while - remember how good I'd become in this sport. What I can tell you is I've not forgotton all the experiences in just playing the sport.

... Here's a thread where we compete on our experiences, and share thoughts on everything about it.

Let's Ride. ;)

Never played it. I might have held the racket once. So, yeah, since "Nonexistent skill level" is not even an option, I can't vote on the poll. Because "Below average" would indicate at least "some" kind of experience in playing, which I have none. No one knows how low is below. ;)

When I really want to, I can kick ass at this game. I love playing with my more competitive/playful cousin because we'll keep at it for hours. We like to come up with ideas to invent/build based on this game. One day, those inventions for table tennis will be built/fully-developed! :D

I'm very good. And I'm not even asian! So that means I'm like the Larry Bird of table tennis, without the porn 'stache.

I used to play table tennis during my free hours during the pre-university school days - and excelled over a short period of time. Used to love smashing the ball at will, but absolutely loved sparring(?). Could do it for hours...

I love table tennis and am pretty skilled at it. I got particularly good at it playing it frequently in a bomb shelter while in Israel (what else do you use a bomb shelter for when you're not presently under attack? :D).

Mostly my problem is trying to find someone who will play it endlessly with me. :( I really need this to get into the mental mode of it and on regular basis to have a chance at improving.

Haven't played in a while. Bought a table about 8 years ago and at first, used it all the time. Don't so much anymore. I was really into this as a teenager and some in college too.

What kind of deliveries are you guys good at - spinning the ball, smashing, defensive play, offensive?

One of my serves is so deadly it's a guaranteed point with my friends, and they outlaw it. I only break it out if I have to stop momentum on their part, or demoralize after a good volley. They call it "The Chop." Also, I have a dirty shot that just puts an insane backspin on the ball, so it just buries itself into the net on return. They either over or underhit it, but it's hard to control because it just "floats" off my paddle.

My backhand is far better than my forehand, I need work on that. Because of that my play is largely defensive and I use precision to set myself up for winning shots.

^^ Eheh, very nice.

I've got a variety. Usually fast-paced smashes, but resort to back hand spinning when critical. How far away from the table do you stand? Rules say approximately 3 feet, but some times I go as far back as 5 feet, or more.

(Choosing between 'Great', and 'Very Good'.)

It depends on how good the other player is. If the are good and hit harder shots, I'm going to end up further back.

^^ Yeah, that's normally case.

I'd usually stand 'that' back to ensure rallies go on longer than if I were closer - and could counter more setpiece smashes if delivered from just below table height at that distance.

Who's good at overarm smashes?

Wait a damn minute!!!!! Where's the "pitifully awful - I tried once and never dared to again because I'm so uncoordinated, cannot follow the ball, and if I can, I sure as hell cannot hit it" option???

Spins, defensive, and offensive.

I was playing last night against a worth opponent, and sadly some of my hits had too much air.

I love switching the paddle from hand to hand mid-"swing". It's good for developing coordination, and not just for showiness.

Man, I would still be playing table tennis as much wanted - had it not been for career, such, and such, and such. Now, I'm beginning to wonder if the same skillset works for what I see in criteria to do with anything like ninjutsu.

^^ Why, of course. Good idea. :)

I'd like to see some particularly astounding setpiece play - such as the first vid. Although, the matrix ping pong is amusing, and may work for some viewers, I'd think we could do with more 'actual' gameplay like the first vid - just to keep things a whole lot real.

... I've got one.
