Here is the irony of the situation. Back in the late 70's Warner Communications had bought Atari and treated their game developers really badly. The developers decided they had enough of this crap and formed their own company: Activision.

Today things have come full circle and now Activision is the evil mega corp. that is trying to screw over game developers.

It's very unfortunate. Brand is so critical in the video game industry, and the fact that Activision is essentially stealing the Modern Warfare brand from the creative directors is borderline criminal. But hey, it's business. Activision wants to expand the brand, the brand creators want to maintain quality and consistency.

Publishing houses have too much power.

$36 million is chump change compared to the $1 billion the game brought in in the first two months. Plus, the Call of Duty franchise has brought in over $3 billion since it was aquired by Activision. These people are claiming that they haven't gotten their royalties for these games, which they are supposed to and Activision was supposed to not have the exclusive rights to the Modern Warfare franchise. That was supposed to stay at Infinity Ward where they were told they would have creative control over the franchise, which Activision is seeking to take away.

At the end of the day, Activision just looks greedy.
