as noted above...One of These Days" - Pink Floyd, from Meddle (awsome base) and Smashing Pumpkins Siamese Dream and G&Rs Welcome to the Jungle.

    also add

"Angel of Death" Slayer; Reign in Blood. (toss up between this and the more moody South of Heaven with its more memorable opening guitar riff)
"Poundcake" Van Halen; For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge also one of the most underrated albums of all time
"2112" (title track) Rush actually prefer the most of the rest of the album the same or better.
"Murder Was the Case" (Snoop Dogg) Murder Was the Case: The Soundtrack especially followed by the second track "Natural Born Killaz" (Dre and Ice Cube)
"Here with Me" Dido No Angel yup call me a romantic

I also enjoy opening tracks such as:

"Pork Chop's Little Ditty" from Primus' Pork Soda
    and
"Untitled Track [1]" from Mudhoney's Piece of Cake

"Love On a Real Train" by Tangerine Dream

Grooveshark - Listen to Free Music Online - Internet Radio - Free MP3 Streaming

This is the track where Tom Cruise "did it" with Rebecca DeMornay on a subway in the movie "Risky Business." I've used it as an intro on many a mix CD...

My favorite opening track is my favorite because it was so surprising.

Prelude 3.0 is the first track of Slipknot's album Vol. 3: The Subliminal Verses. If you haven't heard Slipknot, they're a metal band known for their brutal drum section. But Prelude 3.0 was a slow, sad song of regret that almost reminded me of a ballad.
