Default What do y'all think of MMA?

So how do you guys feel about MMA?

    Anyone watch fights?

Does anyone else here train to fight?

I'm curious to see how the members of this forum feel about it seeing as how this site (by its nature) has a very diverse membership. I think that there will be some in favor. Some who feel its not for them. And lastly some who think its nothing but a barbaric spectacle (basically the "please think of the children argument).

I started training last august at a gym here in Florida. Initially, I was just looking for the fitness benefits and the stress relief. After a long day of the socratic method there's nothing better than going a few rounds with a heavy bag or a partner. Eventually though I fell in love with MMA. My goals now are to eventually be in some amateur fights.

No doubt. Watching him KO Forrest Griffin was like finding out there's no Santa Claus. If you're a fan of Forrest that is.

It's super fun and a great way to get those stresses out of your life. Nothing like punching someone in the face. >:o)

I'll watch if it's on. It's always a good time watching people beat the shit out of each other.

i used to box in college on our boxing team as a light heavyweight 165 lbs. i used to have really fast hands.

i like watching MMA, as long as they are not hugging in missionary position

too much hugging, it makes me wonder how 2 ppl train when no one else is in the gym. like... do they get tired and stay in that position??? lol no one knows but them.

I think I've only watched any of it for a few minutes, but count me under the "barbaric spectacle" crowd (and I don't agree with your link that this is a "think of the children" argument). It's just not anything I care to watch. Seeing people intentionally trying to injure / beat each other senseless as entertainment just has no appeal.

Don't get me wrong - I'm sure it takes a lot of hard work and dedication to prepare for such a thing, and I'm sure that the training they do is a great way to get in shape, but certainly not entertaining or at all enjoyable for me to watch.
