In no order...

1. The Cure - Disintegration
My older sister bought this when I was about 5 and it blew my 5 year old mind...and the obsession with 80s darkwave began!

2. Morrissey - Vauxhall and I
I think I was about 9 when it came out, and it's what made me fall in love with Morrissey's voice and then to get into The Smiths as a teen, which you know, saved my life :D

3. Garbage - Version 2.0
I pretty much wanted to BE Shirley Manson when this came out.

4. Depeche Mode - Some Great Reward
My older sis would play LA's KROQ & they were always playing songs off of this. I have a soft spot for electronic music always now.

5. Cocteau Twins - Treasure
My aunt would make mixed tapes for my sis and me as kids, and she put songs off of this album on one. It fueled my taste for dark ambience.

6. Smashing Pumpkins - Siamese Dream
As a child, I'd listen to stuff my older sister liked, stuff my best friend's older brother liked, and whatever crap was on pop radio. Both of them liked the grunge and alternative music of the early 90s, but this one of the only bands that stuck with me over time.

7. Hot Hot Heat - Makeup the Breakdown
As a teen, music on the radio had gone downhill, and I turned to downloading. But I had a hard time finding new, interesting music living in a suburb where people listen to top 40, metal, rap, and county. By the time this came out at the start of college in 2002, I was finding bands through well-known indie labels (sub-pop, matador, 4AD, etc). This particular album stands out, because I went to a few shows, met like-minded people, and found a plethora of other good new music through them. This also made me go from standing still at shows to dancing :D

8. The Pixies - Trompe Le Monde

Hmm..

1. Tori Amos - Little Earthquakes (and several others)
2. Radiohead - The Bends / OK Computer
3. Pearl Jam - Ten
4. Elliott Smith - XO
5. Lisa Gerrard - Duality
6. Live - Secret Samadhi
7. Dead Can Dance - Aeon
8. Thievery Corporation - Outernational Sound

I dunno...with the exception of a handful in this list (1,2, 3, and 5), it was really hard for me to come up with the other albums. I have a smattering of a lot, and often particular songs have more impact on me than albums as a whole.
