I'm just trying to think of any good music that came out in the 80s ...

Hmmmm I'm having some difficulty. I quite like Franky goes to Hollywood. Pink Floyd the wall. The Prodigy? Was that right at the end of the 80s? I'm starting to struggle a little now. I suppose there's quite a lot of good hip hop in there.

Whereas the 70s produced my favourite album Yes - Close to the Edge :) Oh yes, the progressive rock concept album.

I really enjoyed the 90s - The Orb, the whole ambient thing. More progressive electronic music, techno, house, acid etc.

1976.

Therefore, the 70's was the best, among other reasons. :headphne:

why can't we go back farther? I bet Plato knew how to rap.

OH WAIT, there it is! before 1910....

still a pretty historically and culturally biased poll, though.

No way I could pick just one.

I mean, you have the Big Band/Swing era, then Rock & Roll, everything that came out of MoTown. The one hit wonders of the 80s, 70s Rock, & all the Punk from the 70s/80s.

It wasn't so much about the decade itself but particular styles of music that evolved in any particular decade.

If we are going for 10-year spans, 1965-1975 and 1985-1995. And, of course, the entire expanse of human history before 1900 is a goldmine. It's hard to argue with 5,000 years of civilization. I dig classical and baroque stuff.

I think it's kind of pointless to say. Every era had great music and crap music. I think the difference is that in some eras the good stuff was popular, and in some it wasn't.

1920s-30s. The Jazz age.

I might be a bit biased though. I grew up with a grandfather who was a jazz junky.

90's thanks, i'd have said 80's but alas the 90's left a bigger impression on my psyche than the 80's, almost a tie really.

Depends on the genre. I voted 70s, because that was the best time for rock, IMO. But the 30s-40s was the best time for jazz, 50s and 80s were the best time for pop. 60s was the best time for country. 90s was a complete waste of time, for my personal musical tastes. *ducks*

Can't choose. Too many great artists come to mind from all decades. I say, any time is great time for music.

I have a personal affinity for the 80s. I don't know if it's the best, but it's my favorite.

The 20s and 30s in terms of musical innovation. Well, to be more specific, black musical innovation.

60s and 70s for best music overall.
