ps- if you choose more than one, offer an explanation please. :)

I voted for Kate because it's her song and as far as I'm concerned no one can fondle it as well as she can. Placebo a firm second with Hounds of Love third. Within Temptation had some good bits but overall they sucked.

I went with Kate, as well. It's the hit single from her best album, and she plays almost all of the music on it. Very, very sensual and evocative song. I enjoy Placebo very much, but their covers usually sound somewhat ridiculous (not in a necessarily bad way). It's more to do with Molko's voice. Ever hear their "Bigmouth Strikes Again" cover? I can't think of two voices more opposed within the same genre of music as Morrissey's and Molko's. That being said, I can just like both of them on that song. :D

While I love Placebo (seen them live 4 times), Kate has to win here. 'Running up that hill' in its original version is a classic, such a calm beat and I think her voice is more passionate. You can tell the meaning better.

2 of their covers that I do like are of 'I Feel You' by Depeche Mode and 'Where is my mind?' by Pixies.
Like you said, I think it's because his voice seems to actually work with these.
