Who are your Top Ten Favorite Fictional People?

In no particular order

1. Dr. Doom- I fell in love with him when I went through Secret Wars, lol.
2. Spiderman-witty, and a kick butt underdog
3. Sam in Lord of the Rings- he's the real hero in that movie series in my opinion
4. Darth Vader- hmm I'm seeing a pattern in the liking of megalomaniacs, lol.
5. Hank Hill- yep
6. Auntie Mame of course,lol.
7. Homer Simpson
8. Mr. Burns-megalomaniac number 3,lol
9. Does Adam West count as a fictional person because the guy is just wonderfully unreal and hilarious- him being himself as the Mayor in the Family Guy- the guy is just hilarious!
10. George Costanza

I cannot reduce it to ten, and I know there are many I've forgotten from this list. I am sticking just with written works and not even really delving too far into TV/movies here...

So ten of my favorites (among many):

1. Linden Avery ("Chronicles of Thomas Covenant")
2. Arha/Tenar (Earthsea Trilogy)
3. Kitty Pryde (X-Men)
4. Q (ST:TNG)
5. Francine (Strangers in Paradise)
6. Cole Seer (The Sixth Sense)
7. Andy McGee (Firestarter)
8. Dianora (Tigana)
9. Roseanne
10. Nathan (A Single Broken Thread)

Ooohh, an oldie series here, so you have read Secret Wars, hmmm? (That's where Spidey got his black suit! Before it became venom.)

7. Homer Simpson

Bart: Wow, cool, God is so in your face!
Homer: Yeah, He's my favorite fictional character.

;)

I not to sure what you mean by favourite, so i'm going to answer it as the 10 most interesting fictional characters -- IMO.

In no particular order.

Raskolnikov.
The gravedigger from Hamlet.
The idiot in King Lear.
Iago.
Alex DeLarge.
HAL 3000.
Cerpin Taxt.
Judge Holden.
Private Witt/Sgt.Walsh - To me they're two sides to the same coin, so im going to count them as one.
And probably God, or rather the concept of God -- I do think s/he/it is a human creation, but that isn't to say a god doesn't exist.

Good question! These are the first to come to mind. I'll probably revise the list later.

  • Horace Rumpole (John Mortimer, Rumpole of the Bailey). The character I most identify with. Aging, very good at what he does, could have risen higher in his profession but lacks the ambition, total smartass.
  • Master Li (Barry Hughart, Bridge of Birds + others)
  • Emma Peel (The Avengers)
  • Francis Urquhart (Michael Dobbs, House of Cards + others). I don't usually go for villains, but I made an exception for this one.
  • Sam and Max (Steve Pucell, comic). I'm cheating a bit 'cause they're an anthropomorphic dog and hyperkinetic rabbity thing, but what the hell. Creatures of pure id. It would be fun to be as uninhibited as them, but it's a just as well that we're not.
  • Jack Crabb (Little Big Man)
  • Jesse and Celine (Before Sunrise + Before Sunset). I fell in love along with them while watching this film.
  • Smilla Jaspersen (Peter Hoeg, Smilla's Sense of Snow). An intelligent smartass loner. Not at all a likable personality, but utterly fascinating.

1. Linden Avery ("Chronicles of Thomas Covenant")

I just read this. Are you kidding? Is this a joke? She's so very irritating. And she tried to kill Cail when he was already dying and asking for her help. And she killed her mother. She was the very hand of the despiser. Nearly as irritating as Covenant himself.

As for the OP, far too ambitious an undertaking for this P to commit himself to.

These are the first ten that come to mind. I have no assurance that they are, in fact, the top ten.

Lew's Carroll's Alice
Yossarian (Catch 22)
Philip J. Fry (Futurama)
Donnie Darko
Ender Wiggin (Ender's Game)
Nell (The Diamond Age)
Starbuck (Battlestar Galactica)
Darl Bundren (As I Lay Dying) (It was difficult to decide between Darl and Vardaman, but I could more easily identify with Darl)
Frankenstein's monster
John Locke (Lost)
