Hold your tongue, my daughter dear
Be still and be content
For there's men enough in Galloway
You need not so lament

Oh there's men enough in Galloway
Alas, there's none for me
For I never had a love but one
And he's drowned in the sea

Brant Bjork - Too Many Chiefs

Oh in the sun he hides from you
Cause you smile and then you tell him lies
But the boy always knew
That they'd choke upon his pride
And as the greed eats his sand
Turns to stone all that lived
And all he builds is made by hand
And the love and the love he always gives
Oh when they look in to his eyes
They just wont leave him alone
C'mon leave him alone
And he knows you're not that blind
He knows you too well
Just choose not to see
He only knows whats beating in his heart
So he never speaks his mind
But he says his prayers and tries so motherfucking hard
You know he does everyday
And the lord says give it time
Or check it out bro i'll fucking try
Oh when they look in to his eyes
But they just wont leave him alone
C'mon please leave him alone
And he knows they're not that blind
You're not that blind he knows you too well
You just choose not to see
What a shame

Stop
Red lights in the distance
You never been to that district they reference
Trunk full of hashish and mescaline
Your mind is a mess and this bitch is undressin'

A)
Mash on the throttle like a G
Put a bottle to your teeth
Say fuck it, you're a free man

B)
Pull over to the side of the street,
Keep your hand on the shotty sitting up under the seat, or

C)
Let the cop pull you over say something slick,
On some Jay-Z "99 Problems"-type shit

D)
All of the above in your head,
but it really doesn't matter cause you already dead.

No obituaries for the most part
Nobody cares, you are not even a co-star
Just an extra
They read about it as a number --
Names got money in their wallet.

The Honey Trees-Orchard

You were the coal
She was the fire
That warmed your skin
And all within
Memories to hold
Her trembling fingers
Held all they'd known
As she went on

Oh, sweet orchard
Shade the growing light
Holding softly to my weary eyes

Thousands of all
Hunger inside
These withering eyes
Too tired to cry
A face, hiding so silently
Burns to know
The love that grows here

Oh, sweet orchard
Let forgiving strands of light
Break my silence
Burn the night
Oh, sweet waters
Flow with love for me inside
Cast me quietly unto morning's light

Oh, burn through the night, burn
Oh, love burn through the night

Sleeping At Last-Joy

It is the calm water
In the middle of an anxious sea.
Where heavy clouds part and the sunrise starts
A fire in the deepest part of me.
So I let go and in this moment, I can breathe.

The clumsy start of adolescence,
The glue that mends our broken remnants,
An overwhelming sense of reverence,
It's a glimpse of light in a mine of gold.

A silver lining spilling over,
The rumor of buried treasure,
The starting line of an adventure,
It's a glimpse of light in a mine of gold.

It's an afterglow, it's an echo
Still ringing out in spite of me.
It's the faint outline of the divine
In the hiding place of my periphery.
So I let go and in this moment, I can breathe.
I can breathe.

The setting sun through open windows,
The honoring of every shadow,
A gratitude for all that follows,
It's a glimpse of light in a mine of gold.

The countless stars we're sleeping under,
It's the brightest sparks that we remember.
When our eyes are closed, we still see embers,
A glimpse of light in a mine of gold.
It's a glimpse of light in a mine of gold.

Paper Aeroplane Sail

All I ever wanted was to stay
But I fell outside your consciousness for days
Drove across a desert full of rain
Watching as the landscape underneath us changed

We are brokenhearted now
We were all full starts and doubt
I'll be the one who finds me out
When your ship comes in, to let it sail is the hardest thing

Every little line upon your face
I could crawl into and hibernate for days
The sun came and shone into the space
Growing up like ivy edges scrapped away

We are brokenhearted now
We were all full starts and doubt
I'll be the one who finds me out
When your ship comes in, to let it sail is the hardest thing
To let it sail is the hardest thing

Please no youtube videos. I want to hear some of your favorite lyrics. :)

I'll start things out with some Bob Dylan.

Bob Dylan - A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall

Oh, where have you been, my blue-eyed son?
Oh, where have you been, my darling young one?
I've stumbled on the side of twelve misty mountains,
I've walked and I've crawled on six crooked highways,
I've stepped in the middle of seven sad forests,
I've been out in front of a dozen dead oceans,
I've been ten thousand miles in the mouth of a graveyard,
And it's a hard, and it's a hard, it's a hard, and it's a hard,
And it's a hard rain's a-gonna fall.

Oh, what did you see, my blue-eyed son?
Oh, what did you see, my darling young one?
I saw a newborn baby with wild wolves all around it
I saw a highway of diamonds with nobody on it,
I saw a black branch with blood that kept drippin',
I saw a room full of men with their hammers a-bleedin',
I saw a white ladder all covered with water,
I saw ten thousand talkers whose tongues were all broken,
I saw guns and sharp swords in the hands of young children,
And it's a hard, and it's a hard, it's a hard, it's a hard,
And it's a hard rain's a-gonna fall.

And what did you hear, my blue-eyed son?
And what did you hear, my darling young one?
I heard the sound of a thunder, it roared out a warnin',
Heard the roar of a wave that could drown the whole world,
Heard one hundred drummers whose hands were a-blazin',
Heard ten thousand whisperin' and nobody listenin',
Heard one person starve, I heard many people laughin',
Heard the song of a poet who died in the gutter,
Heard the sound of a clown who cried in the alley,
And it's a hard, and it's a hard, it's a hard, it's a hard,
And it's a hard rain's a-gonna fall.

Oh, who did you meet, my blue-eyed son?
Who did you meet, my darling young one?
I met a young child beside a dead pony,
I met a white man who walked a black dog,
I met a young woman whose body was burning,
I met a young girl, she gave me a rainbow,
I met one man who was wounded in love,
I met another man who was wounded with hatred,
And it's a hard, it's a hard, it's a hard, it's a hard,
It's a hard rain's a-gonna fall.

Oh, what'll you do now, my blue-eyed son?
Oh, what'll you do now, my darling young one?
I'm a-goin' back out 'fore the rain starts a-fallin',
I'll walk to the depths of the deepest black forest,
Where the people are many and their hands are all empty,
Where the pellets of poison are flooding their waters,
Where the home in the valley meets the damp dirty prison,
Where the executioner's face is always well hidden,
Where hunger is ugly, where souls are forgotten,
Where black is the color, where none is the number,
And I'll tell it and think it and speak it and breathe it,
And reflect it from the mountain so all souls can see it,
Then I'll stand on the ocean until I start sinkin',
But I'll know my song well before I start singin',
And it's a hard, it's a hard, it's a hard, it's a hard,
It's a hard rain's a-gonna fall.

Funny - I noticed the thread and was going to post these, then they're first up. I think this was maybe the finest thing Dylan ever wrote. maybe the closest he came to being mentioned in the same breath as Leonard Cohen.

God I love lyrics this is my kind of thread.
pale September- Fiona apple
Pale September
I wore the time
Like a dress that year
The autumn days
Swung soft around me
Like cotton on my skin
But as the embers
Of the summer
Lost their breath
And disappearred
My heart went cold and
Only hollow rhythms
Resounded from within
But then he rose
Brilliant as the moon in full
And sank in the
Burrows of my keep
And all my armour
Falling down
In a pile at my feet
And my winter giving
Way to warm
As I'm singing him to sleep
He goes along just
As a water lily
Gentle on the surface
Of his thoughts
His body floats
Unweighed down by
Passion or intensity
Yet unaware of the
Depth upon which he coasts
And he finds a home in me
For what misfortune sows
He knows my touch will reap
And all my armour
Falling down
In a pile at me feet
And my winter giving
Way to warm
As I'm singing him to sleep
All my armour
Falling down
In a pile at my feet
And my winter giving
Way to warm
As I'm singing him to sleep

I want you - third eye blind
The suckers loose themselves
In the games they learn to play
Children love to sing but
Then their voices slowly fade away
People always take a step away
From what is true
That's why I like you around
I want you
Oh you do you do...
You make me want you
An open invitation to the dance
Happenstance set the vibe that we are in
No apology because my urge is genuine
And the mystery of your rhythm is so feminine
Here I am and I want to take a hit
Of your scent cause it bit so deep into my soul
I want you
Yeah, you do you do...
You make me want you
Oh you do you do...
Send me all your vampires
I want you
And I can't get enough, oh I can't get enough
And I can't get enough
The village church yard is filled with
Bones weeping in the grave
The silver lining of clouds
Shines on people Jesus couldn't save
You want to know how deeply my soul goes
Deeper than bones
Deeper than bones
And I can't get enough
Oh, I can't get enough
Oh, I can't get enough
Oh, I can't get enough
After we did it by the window sill
Smoke rings drift into the midnight sky
Presently in the quilt that your mother made
A candle burns to fight off the gloom
I said to live in this way is not for the meek
And like a jazz DJ you talk me into sleep
I said there'll be no regrets when the worms come
And they will surely come
You do you do...
Make me want you
Send me all your vampires
Yeah you do...
Make me want you

The Lunar Year Porcelain

My brain is porcelain.
I'm a contortionist
I want to breathe you in
As your light breathes

Like wine and lilac
Betrothed inside your veins.
Your bones are verdant and fair
I would die without you.

My brain is porcelain.
I'm a contortionist
A fiend of circumstance,
I break at zeal's first glance.
My vice is my own mind
I would die without you.

You dress my loveless spine
and braid my muzzled hair
You rip my heart in two
I would die without you
I would die without you.

My brain is porcelain
My brain is porcelain...

If My Heart Was A House by Owl City

You're the sky that I fell through
And I remember the view whenever I'm holding you
The sun hung from a string
Looking down on the world as it warmed over everything
Chills run down my spine as our fingers entwine
And your sighs harmonize with mine
Unmistakably I can still feel your heart
Beat fast when you dance with me

We got older and I should have known
(Do you feel alive?)
That I'd feel colder when I walk alone
(Oh, but you'll survive)
So I may as well ditch my dismay
(Bombs away... Bombs away...)

Circle me and the needle moves gracefully
Back and forth, if my heart was a compass you'd be North
Risk it all cause I'll catch you if you fall
Wherever you go, if my heart was a house you'd be home

It makes me smile because you said it best
I would clearly feel blessed if the sun rose up from the west
Flower balm perfume, all my clothes smell like you
Cause your favorite shade is navy blue

I walk slowly when I'm on my own
(Do you feel alive?)
Yeah, but frankly I still feel alone
(Oh, but you'll survive)
So I may as well ditch my dismay
(Bombs away... Bombs away...)

Circle me and the needle moves gracefully
Back and forth, if my heart was a compass you'd be North
Risk it all cause I'll catch you if you fall
Wherever you go, if my heart was a house you'd be home

If my heart was a house, you'd be home
