I like Ralph Steadman's use of color..

However the content isn't really for me.

Forgot to add: And post some of your favourite works of his.

Probably more of an illustrator, but I also liked his use of colour and his strokes.

Claude Monet is my favourite.

I also love the House of Parliament ones a lot, too. Really, all his stuff is amazing. The computer scans do them no justice, you have to see them face to face to really get just how rediculously amazing his use of colour is to give things shape, depth, and perspective. You can only really see how detailed and intricate it is from a distance, while the opposite is true for most paintings. They seem blurry up close and almost three dimensional from about fifteen fet away. It's nuts.

I also love Van Gogh and most of the impressionism and expresisonism stuff. And Dali.

My favourite Monet is not very representative of his work

Camille Monet on Her Deathbed

But I love the way he paints such a subject in the same way he paints his landscapes.

ed111, I love Hopper, as well. I also dig Delacroix and Fragonard. I tend to be a fan of either totally idiosyncratic artists, or of one or two exemplars of a particular style.

What a good idea for a thread!

I like this guy:

I know people look down on him and say he isn't a proper artist, and that some of his stuff is soft porn, but who gives a f*ck? I like him. Plus he's Scottish. I have some limited edition stuff.

I like some modern sculpture but find most modern/abstract art alienating.

The Old Masters, the Pre-Raphaelites and the Impressionists, float my boat. Esp.

I like Lautrec, and if I may be so boring, Van Gogh, and the one who painted with the many, tint dots. I can't remember his name.

I actually love both of those, and I am using a Van Gogh painting as my avatar, so it CANNOT be boring.

and the one who painted with the many, tint dots. I can't remember his name.

There's actually a whole movement dedicated to this. they call it impressionism.
