As some of you already know, I'm new here, so if a thread like this has already been created please point me in the right direction

To keep it simple, please keep it down to around five fav bands/artists and five fav songs. Now obviously I'm not expecting to come up with the exact same bands or songs, but I'm wondering if my style will be similar to other INFJ's. I tend to gravitate to either rock or Ambient.

In no particular order:

Muse
Motley Crue
Collective Soul
Shawn Mcdonald
Darren Hayes

Everything - Lifehouse
Trading Yesterday - Love Song Requiem
Anything - Carie howe
Time is Running Out - Muse
Take Hold - Shawn Mcdonald

Oh wow, only five? :D

I'll give it a try, but it might be a little difficult as my musical taste seems to run all over the spectrum.

Musician(s)
John Mayer
Sarah McLachlan
The Beatles
Maroon 5
Aerosmith

Songs
Shut Up and Let Me Go- The Ting Tings
Hall Om Mig Nu- Nanne Gronvall
Sweet Surrender- Sarah McLachlan
Pink- Aerosmith
Boondocks- Little Big Town

[throw in a variety of Japanese rock/pop, some Enya, classical music- think Tchaikovsky/Mozart/Beethoven, and a little bit of electronica/dance...you've about got it for me. Basically, anything that is catchy enough or soothing enough to rock my soul will do it, haha]

Most of the INFJs IRL I know have terrible taste in music, so I was surprised when I went on here and found out that some do in fact have decent taste (mainly Sanveane).

Maybe it isn't type related after all. ;)

I had a really hard time narrowing this down.

Judy Garland
Steven Curtis Chapman
Harry Connick, Jr.
The Beatles
Eric Whitacre

To Italy For A Kiss-Nicholas Pike
Through The Years-Judy Garland
The Awakening-Joseph M. Martin
I Will Be Here-Steven Curtis Chapman
Go Lovely Rose-Eric Whitacre

hmm...This is kind of hard to narrow down. Ok, well 5 groups/bands/artists/whatever that I always tend to gravitate back to:

Sonic Youth
Fugazi
Franz Schubert
Jane's Addiction
Radiohead
Sergei Rachmaninov
Chopin
Mono
Beck

Ok, more than 5, but I couldn't help myself. :)

Narrowing down to five seems impossible but I'll try. (Argh! After 10 minutes I almost gave up in frustration). I guess I really do like classical since I grew up on it. But I also like jazz and rock and everything else, just not in my top 5.

Beethoven
Rachmaninoff
Tchaikovsky
Borodin
Ravel

Maurice Ravel - Pavane pour un enfante defunte / Pavane for a dead princess
Edward Elgar - Serenade for Strings (2nd movement)
Richard Wagner - Meistersingers of Nuremberg Overture
Henry Purcell - Music for the Funeral of Queen Mary
Ludwig van Beethoven - Ninth Symphony (4th movement)

eh, I'm gonna do 10 since I don't want to bother with finding individual songs...

Deathspell Omega
Esoteric
Ephel Duath
The Amenta
Inquisition (Columbia)
Wormed
Defeated Sanity
Evoken
Psycroptic
The Firstborn

Those are just some of my favorite metal bands; I like quite a lot of other music as well, but that's what I mostly listen to.

Wow. We're all over the place. Music most definitely is not type related. Atleast not in the case of us INFJ's.

Or maybe it would suffice to say that INFJs tend to be the type to be diverse in their musical taste because we are so diverse in and of ourselves?

Just a thought :headphne:

Hmm I haven't done any of the other threads, so I suppose I could do this one.

5 "bands" (which I take to include composers) in no order:

The Beatles
The Pogues (not live...the poor bastard who sings sounds terrible live)
CCR
Django Reinhart and Stephane Grapelli
The Seatbelts
The Pillows

The problem with listing bands is I don't always like what a band creates, and often I'll only have a few songs or just one album by them. So whenever I say I listen to a band, assume I just listen to a few songs I really like; do not assume I know everything about the band beyond the name.

5 songs, at the moment:

"Call me, Call me" - Steve Conte
"The Journey to the West" - Joe Hisaishi, "Princess Mononoke"
"Blues for Django and Stephane" - from "Young Django"
"Channel Z" - B-52s, "Time Capsule"
"Here Comes the Sun" - The Beatles, "Abbey Road"

Ravel rocks. Daphnis et Chloe is one of my favorites, but the pavane is so wonderful as well. Tough call for me.

Have you ever heard Maurice Durufle's Requiem that he wrote for his father?
It is one of the most beautiful things I've ever heard. wow

Definitely agree. (and in general, haven't seen any clear trends with regards to other types either. Music is far too personalized.)

Anyway, 5 is pretty much impossible, as I have favorites within each genre that I listen to.

But here are 5. Tori Amos is the only one I'm definitively 'fanatic' about. The others are just ones I really like. I could list a whole slew of others too, but will leave it at this.
Tori Amos
Pete Yorn
Elliott Smith
Gotan Project
Dead Can Dance/Lisa Gerrard

Oh, and I must do a few classical too -
Bach
Prokoviev
Rachmaninoff
Liszt

No, I have only recently discovered Ravel's music. Thanks for sharing, though, I'm gonna go check this out...:)
