    What if, as the observant,
    I manifest the light,
    With a quickening curiosity
    Through the smoke.

    What if, as the absorbent,
    I challenge the tone,
    With a numbing lull
    Behind the dark.
... They say that knowledge is free, and to truly acquire wisdom always comes with a price... Well then,... That will be $10, please!

    Random poem generator results:

Love is like an imploding fish
We are working at SW today
i wish i had fish it would be delish
    I've had a CourtneyLovekindofday

I wore a watch upon my wrist
And you my dear have lost the plot
Pulling my trousers down gently in the mist
    And Latoya's a SLUT! (A whole lot!)

I met a man who was very pissed
    hung inbetween earth and heaven
    my gift certificate, she used
And read a book by a man named Sven

    Thats deep

That made me laugh uncontrollably. It's really... "Hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy"-like

Mightier than the tread of marching armies is the power of an idea whose time has come

Default I don't want this thread to die!

I forgot to return for commentary. Penda, BridgeCable, dyspraxion, Demigod: nice contributions.

I was hoping more members would contribute, but I can understand their indifference and relate to their reluctance. I can contribute something a bit more substantial myself, but keep it short 'n sweet so I don't incur impatience. Enjoy! --or not, heh.

    Party Favors

    We curl inward
    like party favors
    after the last blow,

    bending so the
    salt-wells spill free
    without show.

    Love’s corners
    slacken, blacken, and
    fold in slow.

    We are outbound
    while inbound
    though we do not know.

If others have something more to share, please do.

    *Sigh*

I see there's only one way to prod some life into this thread, so here goes:

    A Legacy

When flesh shall fade, and paper rot,
Yet through Life's graveyard, hung in mist
One stalks the path time's loss forgot,
Though songs long silent forge no tryst
Between old bones and new desire
To know what nature here once kissed
    Its earthly joys with living fire;

When Truths laid down in graven stone
And trophies of the gods they list
Shall tell their tales to dust alone,
    For man's old gold is new-consist;
And stone shall wear, and iron rust -
Till who dares seek the time's true gist
    Goes but by those small signs they must;

    Then some wise archaeologist
(Who long in this sole hope has mused
On still unperished shards of pots)
May name our times the Mass, Confused
    Late Plastic Periods.

*And this is a serious poem, barring the bathos at the end. Therefore, if this thread continues at its current level of apathy, this offering will be removed at my discretion. So there.*

    ^ Wow!

Do you want critical appreciation, or noncritical appreciation?
    I'm better at the latter.

I think we're aiming for participation of any kind barring tripe and doggerel.

    What
    In this prison wand'ring finds
    A gentle and compassionate soul
The maker of this music hides
Making the half into a whole
In the swamp do secrets linger
    Holding nothing but a satire
    Fragile lives, yet so meager
    Knowing nothing but the fire
Ancients told of life so weary
Where frost and fire become one
    Bubbling stones speak so dreary
A firefly's song they have sung
A candle lit shines no light
Where a wrong seems "proven" to be right
I have no idea who I am. All I can say is let's rock hard.

    (for ragashree)

    First born (a sonnet)

Muffled by nature's silent blanket siege,
The new world seems to be a softer place.
Of childish fairytales; the hidden peace
in cotton sheets and filigree of lace.
A dormant Ben shoulders the whisper wind
And in his shadow snow-caked sheeplands sleep.
While at his head, Aurora waves her wand,
And rainbow colours dance beneath her feet.

The chill-less cold of well-wrapped solitude
    Reclaiming sled adventures, long ago,
When mittened hands with guileless trust imbued,
And virgin foot print-echoed man of snow.
O'erhead, old boughs are clothed with fresh cargo
Like guardian angels who this quiet know.

I have to say that was beautiful. I love the imagery. A quiet wintery scene with only the crunch of snow under boots at first. Then imprints of the sleds telling stories of those who had been there being built upon and the wind carrying child-like laughter away. Memories. ^^ Very pretty.
