View Full Version : Who are your best non-NT friends?

ISTJ girl, INFP girl, ESFP guy. in that order.

Aimahn
01-19-2009, 12:57 AM
ENFJ, ISTJ, ESFP, INFJ.

Surprisngly the NFJs are my closest friends and the ones that I have more of a connection with. When it really comes time to stand our ground on stances though there is a decent amount of conflict. I hate the conflict that comes about with arguing against strong values. We work around it though and all is good after a little battle here and there. ISTJ is funny as shit because of his nature. Not the brightest but that only adds to his humor!

I couldn't agree with you more. My ENFJ friend and I choose not to argue (I think we both realize that the idea of debate between us is foolish)... We just replace differences with laughter.

My ISTJ friend, on the other hand, can be extremely sensitive, defensive, and opinionated. Let's just say I choose my words wisely there. I'm often frustrated by her less-than-brightness, but I contain this and try to concentrate on the common ground and "history" we do have. Like you touched on, there are areas with her where I could easily be critical and intolerant... but I guess, due to a wanting to work on weaknesses, I try to learn from, and apply, her 'S' simplicity where I can.

Nihilen, are you male or female? I ask because I imagine your gender affects the dynamics here. Do you find this link's description true of your friendships with ESFPs? Relations of Duality between psychological ("personality") types (http://www.socionics.com/rel/dlt.htm)

I laughed out loud when I read it, because this is a great description of my INTP-ESFP friendship. The INTP-ISTJ one is pretty accurate too.

Click my profile and check my terrific pseudo-beard. I'm quite proud of it.

To a certain extent. But I believe my friendships/relationships survive with ESFPs because they just don't let me go no matter how many times I ignore them, take some time away from them, act inappropriately towards them, etc.
They just keep coming back as if nothing happened.

INFJ, ISTJ, ESFP.

Sharing Ni remains very handy, but I think it's mostly growing up together and rolling into an appropriate form of communication in part out of necessity, I think sustained effort on everyone's part to become friends the way only teenagers can is what set these people apart - we've ventured beyond type to just accept the person completely. This includes my detachment. By now they are all interesting adults - they feel like equals.

I make friends really, really slowly.

I get along well with a lot of Sensing types.
I have a lot of S friends in college but I would say my best non-NT friends are the ones back home which include an INFP and two ISTJ's.
A lot of my friends are ESFP's. ESFPs, along with ENFP's, tend to be easy to get along with since they are enthusiastic and easygoing about things.
(However, I don't know many ENFP's- maybe one or two of the ESFP's would test as ENFP (especially with that blasted Humanmetrics test)- but I think they are ESFP.)

enFJ, possible isTJ (could be an N)

The only other close friend I have is an INTP, but that's pushing it a little. We exchange emails daily, so it's a cool friendship.

Another NT might be the aforementioned isTJ. He's a little strange--and young, so it's up in the air.

The only friends I have who's types I am certain of:

INFP, ENFP, INTJ, ENTJ, ENTP, ISTJ. ESTJ (last two recently acquired)

The ENFP is my best friend. I have the closest relationship with my INFP and INTJ friends, probably the least connection with the ISTJ. I have a few ENTJ friends, but they can be a bit much at times, I need to take some of them in doses.

I find I often have extreme mental disconnects with S types. When I'm explaining a joke to an N friend, I'll usually just need to explain step 1, and they'll infer steps 2 and 3 by themselves and figure out why it's funny. My ISTJ friend, and some other S types I've ran into, often need steps 2 and 3 as well. This isn't all S types of course, just a few I've ran into.

Real friends? One ENFJ and one INFJ.

Conversing friends: An ENFP and an INFP along with the two above.

NTs are way fun.

INFP girl, and a cat.

my only other best friend is an INTJ male.

not sure if I fit the bill, haha.

though the cat, if applicable, would be an ISTP most likely. She's not really wisest cat of all time, but she is hilarious.

not to say SP's are dumb (well, to the rest of the world), just that most cats are, to me, either NT's or NF's. Maybe an SJ male here and there.

Second place, well, might be cheating. But my ESFJ sister. We totally don't get along in discussions, she's totally outragious most of the time and very irrational. But we have a certain understanding. She thinks I'm amazingly super smart and I think she has no idea what I think about her. *whistles innocently*

First place best friend I ever known, INFJ girl, friends for 5 years, dun matter when I speak to her or what I speak to her about, we both almost instantly go happy-mellow-mode every single time. It's like chemistry.

ESFJ girl, and 2 ESFP (mom and sis...think my mom was an ESFJ most of her life but she's had some cognitive loss over the past several years and her personality has changed).

ISTP female. She feels like a childhood friend who wasn't. There's a deep goofiness to our interaction, interspersed with dispassionate churning over what should by all rights be difficult emotional issues. Her endless optimism and acceptance is an interesting foil for my grouchy indifference.

She lures me out of myself and gives me an excuse to do all manner of stuff I otherwise wouldn't. We recently agreed to trade off. I'd accompany her on active quests -- tennis, hiking, swimming. We went sunbathing a couple of times, if you can believe it. In return, she'd do all manner of fussy things with me -- play German-style board games or watch films. We both like to cook, and that kind of sits in the middle.

My best friend is an ISTJ girl, I've never gotten along with anyone like I do with her. She's an incredibly rational, hardworking person, and I've never had any problems with thinking she's not intelligent or is overly traditional like others seem to see in ISTJ. INFX seem to click with me but I've never been able to maintain relationships with them because of the emotional ups and downs.

ISFJ ENFP ISTJ ESTJ are closest friends. Also, I'm meeting some really great other types of NFs on the forum that I don't seem to find IRL

ISTP-always click right off the bat and stay close friends forever (Usually meet in the back of the classroom--I let them copy my notes they invite me dirtbiking!)
ISTJ-take a while to warm up but stay long term friends-- good for livening up the conversation at funerals and football games.
ENFP-usually become instant friends but I either inspire or depress them at any given moment.
ESFP-flit in and out of my life, usually when I need a lift
INFP-always there in the background to have coffee and discuss literature great for taking on backpacking trips across Europe.
ENFJ-I seem to collect them like burrs, but they make good minions! Always back me up in a fight.
INFJ-I find I am one of the few people they listen to--good for challenging ideas--both ways.
