I love the Sonic commercials with the couple sitting in their car, imbibing a variety of Sonic beverages and engaging in witty repartee.

I love Jack In The Box commercials. They're absurd and completely funny, and have created their own world to inhabit.

I also enjoy the Emerald Nuts commercials mentioned above. Some commercials really do display wit and storytelling on a par with narrative TV and film.

On the topic, car commercials are uniformly and without exception horrible. Any ideas why?

Ooh! I just remembered a great one! The Geico (I think?) car insurance commercial with voiceover actor Don La Fontaine! "In a world... where both of our cars were totally underwater..."

I think there are a lot of very creative people who are earning a living with their craft through advertising. It gets a bad rap. But car commercials DO suck, nearly universally. Except V-Dub! Those are great, particularly the ones with the nihilist from The Big Lebowski.

These commercials actually showed in the Chicagoland area & I do miss them because they always made me laugh. They still do.

Black and white film. The face of a man staring directly into the camera, intently. He comes closer, closer, head tilting, almost menacing. Turns his head from side to side, as if looking right into your living room, then shouts, "You need some new furniture!"

Yes- I know that commercials are evil since they're just trying to sell us stuff, but some of them are pretty damned amusing sometimes :) I thought I might as well take advantage of the new video linking abilities by starting a thread where we can show our favorite commercials- I'll start with one of the online BMW commercials from The Hire series- if you hate Madonna you'll actually probably love this one directed by her husband! :laugh:
