J'ai un question pour les personnes ici -- quelle forme de français est-ce que tu parles? Parce que je vis au Canada, mon français est du Québec au lieu du France, mais je pense pour la majorité ici il serait l'opposé.

Oui de France ici aerithria Mais il me semble que tu penses en anglais et traduis mot pour mot en francais, hein? (une questionne, c'est feminine, je sais pas pourquoi lol)

entropie... c'est clair que tu penses en allemande En anglais on n'utilise pas ces verbes a sens reflechi comme ca, en francais 'je me derange' mais en anglais 'I get angry' et pas 'I anger myself'

Il dépend. Vraiment, le seul branche de grammaire français que je suis bon avec c'est les verbes. Quand il vient à les tenses masculins ou feminines, je suis terrible. Mais je suis bon avec la conversation français. Quand les personnes autour de moi parlent en français, je peux penser facilement en français. Avec les situations comme maintenant, où tous est écrit et rien est parlé, c'est beaucoup plus difficile pour moi d'aller dans cette 'zone' mentale, donc oui, je pense en anglais et fais un peu de translation après.

What I meant was that it's very obvious that you're thinking in English and translating your thoughts word for word into French, resulting in rather odd and stilted sounding French.

For example, rather than saying "quand" for "when..." I might use "si" because you're introducing a conditional clause.

si tout le monde autour de moi parleraient en francais, j'arriverais mieux a penser en francais mais...
Literally,"if all the world around of me spoke (conditional) in French, I would arrive better at to think in French, but..." but it translates in reality as "when everyone around me speaks French it's easier for me to think in French".

Rather than "la seule branche que je suis bon avec" which put into literal English translation sounds fine (the only branch that I am good with), but clumsy in French, I'd probably say "la seule chose grammatique qui je sais bien, c'est..." which translates literally as "the only thing grammatical who I know well, it's...", clumsy in English but good French

I know you know what I mean, I'm just putting it into words for other people who're trying to learn and do the same thing. A good way to train yourself out of doing it is, if you can't actually get the chance to be around Francophones very often (as I don't!!), try to keep your hand in by listening to French media as often as possible. With so many webcasting radio stations (Radio Courtoisie is good for learners because they speak good French, lots of talking and usually not too fast, and no slang/streetspeak) and lots of French movies and TV series on youtube, it's not difficult to over time get a feel for the way French sentences are constructed.

Don't be discouraged though, you obviously have a good vocab

Oh and Blackmail please do correct me if I'm wrong, as I said before I've become very displaced and distanced by enforced separation from France so my own usage is rusty
