We have all read lists that ascribe personality type to job titles, and we have likewise read similar lists linking type to job choices past and present.

Inquiring minds wants to know what job you would like to be paid to do. It sounds simple enough, but I realize that not everything a person would want to do is readily viable. So lets dream a little. I invite you to state what you want and any conditions that need to be in place as precursors to having said dream be reality.

1. mbti type
2. present job
3. dream job
4. conditions

2. Graduate student (organic chemistry, PhD)

3. Don't have one, actually. I do however, have types of attributes I'd like to see in a job that are "dream job apsects". This gives me breathing room and thus doesn't pigeon hole me into one path. I'll explain them in conditions.

4. Management position. Something that will allow me to direct people, "crowd herd", deal with logistics of people, projects, resources (sans money/financial things), and time tables. Something that involves face to face interaction, and frequent meetings with others. Because of my career path, I suspect this will involve organic chemistry in some manner. While I love science, as I get older I am finding that this is, in a way incidential. Essentially, because I have a lot of expertience with science, people, management/leadership, I want to blend them together. As I see it, I don't think there are explicit positions for this, but I will find something that fits closest to these.

okay me second (me and my editing skills took to long to be first)

Dream A

1. mbti type - intj
2. present job - tech support for field techs
3. dream job - professional university/undergrad student
I would like to be paid to study and research my way around the worlds institutions of learning.
4. conditions - I would need my tuition and books and living expences covered; the aquiring of a degree or completion of a project would act either as a bonus, or as currency to be saved up towards something nice. And I would need control over what and where I study.

Dream B is more interesting, at least from the standpoint of why this thread has been created. I'll skip steps one and two.

3. entepreneur of sorts.

That doesn't say much. How about leaving the title alone and telling some history which may get to the point a bit easier.

story:
I live in a border city where unemployment is high on both sides. People want to work, but are either disenfranchiezed, disilusioned and or can't find what they determine to be meaningful employment. I want to be an undercover employment goddess.

There are two aspects to this. The first is to be in charge of the multinational outsourcing company in town. I would want control over choosing the clients and accounts we take on, and advocate for conditions that leave the client and the employees mutually benifited, satisfied and motivated to keep the relationship healthy.
The second side of that would be the undercover aspect - To gather information and select people to give a leg up to; to devise a means of doing so which protects the secrecy of how to qualify for said plan, and does not leave me or my associates overwhelmed by the number of scamming no gooders. This initiative would strive to discover what motivates said qualifiees and provide them with the means to find meaning.

4. conditions
besides the obvious ones, which are time, and and a hell of a lot of capital, I would also need a strong team to keep me motivated to continue and take care of the logistical nitemare that doing the second part at least, would require. I would also need information on people trends - what they like, what they want to be paid for, why they want money.

As an asside, I dont wonder if I'm entirely too prince-ish...as in machiavelian or european auristocracy at the turn of last century. I believe I would prefer to be the benevolent version. The nasty ones leave alot more shit to clean up. Can't say as I like the stink or the mess or the cleaning. Nessesary and natural as shitting may be.

present job - I'm a certified coding specialist. I have a AAS in Health Information Technology and a BS in Health Information Management. I work from home, make good money, excellent benefits and retirement and I don't even work 30 hrs a week.
dream job - MLB bullpen coach. Why? Have you ever seen what they do? They corral the pitchers, bring out the trash can full of balls and answer the phone when the dugout calls for a relief pitcher. However, you apparently need professional baseball coaching experience so it will have to remain a dream. A more realistic dream would be to go back to school into an entirely different field that interests me. I'd get multiple degrees in otherwise useless majors I could never actually make money in simply because I want to.
conditions - I'd be paid to do all this ^^

Really? I thought all they did was sit in a chair and scratch their balls...

Dream Job: Consultant at anything that gets to travel the world and help people from all over.
Conditions: Get to work on projects for about 6 months in various cities + countries, in terms of the actual duty I guess something involving researching and advising would be cool. As long as I have enough money for comfortable living I'm good.

2. Full-time traveller, I get paid to travel and pour the occassional coffee. It was exciting once but after nearly a decade it's become dull and tiring. But it's super easy and I work low hours. It certainly has the power of leverage and gives you options in life other than focusing exclusively on that particular job.

3. Full-time magician/wizard/witch/bender whatever you want to call it. I prefer Mystic as a title myself. Basically never work again except on things that interest me. Interests include nature, earth, growing stuff, environmental causes but only ones with a chance of actually being realised. Fey realms, elemental realms, metalsmithing, ancient crafts, esoterics. Currently working on bringing this into reality.

4. Conditions.

Continuous and rigorous education and training. My mind is never happy unless it's preoccupied in something challenging. Bonus points if that challenge is physical on some level too.

Material needs must be covered financially which is why I'm creating a business around my pursuits to tick that box as well. To all intents and purposes I will become a business owner, for my intents and purposes I will utilise my understanding of universal forces to bring about material change.

Develop a deep understanding of nature, and learning to live in harmony with it, lightly on the land and learn from, rather than master, natural processes. Pass that knowledge on, when and if, others desire to know it.

Dedicate my life towards inner growth, nurturance of the planet, and whatever causes I decide to take up in the future.

Decouple from modern life to the greatest extent possible. In that I mean, reduce my reliance on currency, jobs, medicine (by maintaining health) and social constructs like the race for wealth, having a life partner, the collecting of crap and all the usual bullshit that occupies the lives of many.

Sure there is, project management. As most of what I recall of organic has to do with synthesis, the closest overlap I can guess to organic chem, would be scaling up production processes from the lab to plant (err, 'refinery'-plant, not 'poison ivy'-plant), in conjunction with Chem Engineers.

A more direct path there would be through IT / programming...

1. INTJ (quite a few of us are replying here)

2. research physicist (on paper)

3. research physicist (in actuality)

4. The distinction between (2) and (3) is all in the job environment. There is so much bureaucracy, administrivia, and managerial garbage in my current position, we hardly have any time to do real research, which is supposed to be the main duty of the job. My conditions are numerous:

a. an adequate livelihood
b. whatever I need in terms of equipment, materials, facilities
c. enough funding to travel and publish
d. access to colleagues of various expertise/background (one of the few things on the list that I have now)
e. a couple of students to work on projects with me; perhaps some part-time clerical support as well
f. ability to make my own hours, come and go as I please, and work when and where I decide it makes sense to do so, guided only by the requirements of the work and the need to interact with students/staff
g. no mindless reports, makework budget drills, presentations to technically challenged "higher ups"; no micromanagement of any kind. In fact, no management but my own. Colleague interaction and peer review suffices for the rest.

The only way I know of to get all of this is to be independently wealthy. I am currently applying for a new job, which would provide a good measure of it.

How did you get your full time travelling job omg. How does one become you? I wasn't sure if a job like that even existed or how you would get into it.

This was sung to me in a daydream I was having one day and I've since gone on to achieve some parts of this. I fill most of my time pursuing the rest.

heres what i posted to facebook an hr before watching The Clip

And then there's those moments when all your dreams have been whittled down to one, and you realize that you might not want to keep it after all, and that you'd like to reinvent your future experiences. You begin to dream and get excited about one or three directions. Then you realize how much work it will take, how short your attention span is, and you wonder if this dream will end up like the others, unfulfiled bc you lacked the tools to keep your momentum. That is followed up by achnowledging that doing nothing gets you no where fast. The end result is ... interesting - like walking a knife's edge where reality and possibility meet.
IF only i weren't fed up with my own inadequacies, and actually remembered/accepted that fact often enough to let other people help and support me.

I envy kids. they need only do what they are told. im enterely too opinionated to do justice as a strict yesman. I love to dream. I want...for me to be confident about the direction i want my life to be...both in the next few years, and next few decades. im great at contingency planing, but lets be honest: the daily grind of getting me there by myself, wears me out fast :/
I cant be the only one who wants to reach the end goal AND enjoy the spontanious!
