    Default Any polymaths out there?

I originally posted this in the polymath pact group, but then I thought that this forum has so many more people who are "scanners" than those that joined.

BTW, "scanner", is a term that I first learned about from Barbara Sher's book "Refuse to Choose".

okay, the guy in video speaks the truth but where is the money in being polymath'? money is in 95% of cases in becoming an expert in something. and a true polymath will leave before becoming an expert. because if i see its possible to do it, i will move to the next thing.

Yeah it's not the renaissance anymore, the culture that supported being a polymath doesn't exist now.

There is no longer anything to point to beyond, nothing Other, so it points pointlessly to itself.' - Iain McGilChrist

yup. so a real help for me would be if someone helped me get the money while being polymath, i dont need self-acceptance, that's done in 1 second, lol, because we love being that way. the reason why we hate it is cos we cant get success ie money this way. so if you ask me the guy's video is crap, because ''try it out for a month'' ? whaaat? how do i try it, do i leave my daily job and try each day something new?
he probably has 1 main focus and many sporadical. not a true polymath a true polymath has zero main focus and we absolutely cant make a career in anyyything. noooooooooooo

    nooOoOooOo... ))))

if you can make a career in anything specific you're not strue polymath

    youre subtype of specialist

I think it's possible to make money doing many things.

The issue may be that we just have to accept that it won't be a "job".

I am currently being paid, hourly, to play with robots, have a stipend to study a very interesting biological problem, and am working on incorporating a foundation to further medicine through computational chemistry. None of this is a particularly traditional form of pursuing a career, and it is difficult managing expectations, and deciding how far or how much I want to get involved in a particular thing, but it's working in a weird way so far.

At some point, I want to publish a novel (I have 50+ pages written in a disorganized mess, as well as several seeds for others), and get back into art and photography. These activities may or may not make money.

The key is to exploit that broad knowledge by bringing it all together, as each set of shallow domain knowledge is useless on its own. There's lots to be made in being able to see a bunch of connections between disparate things in the many fields that one knows a little about. Especially by synthesizing teams of experts in different fields and fostering communication and idea-sharing between them. There's more and more emphasis on interdisciplinary work and diverse teams. Organizations that are ahead of the curve recognize that, but unfortunately most aren't quite there yet.

Ygolo I guess you went into deeply into all things you mentioned, but if you jist scratch on the surface millions of things its not as easy to get money that way

But it wouldnt be easy if we were stupid either so perhaps no reason to complain hah!

I didnt finish MD, dropped out at 3rd yr, and of course 98% things i learned were by myself ,but i have medical doctors i never met calling me on the phone with "hello, i am doctor x, doctor y gave me your phone number, i need your help wit my health condition" - a true story happened 2 days ago i have Gregory House, MD reputation so i may know tons but again i am not allowed to give medical advices or prescribe meds, that is one example where i cant really use my knowledge without being once accused of being a charlatan
