so
Thank you :D

How did you like being a resident assistant? I thought that looked pretty fun when I was in school, would have considered it if I hadn't already been super busy.
It was really amazing. It was probably the highlight of my whole college experience. I absolutely loved it.

- liquor store

- hotel (front desk/shuttle driver)

- sales

- in office for temp service/bouncer for temp service

- warehouse, which I surprisingly enjoy

throughout and in the past:

First job was at McDonalds when I was 15. lasted 6 months and even that was too long...
-Bagger at a Grocery Store (Enjoyable, but boring)
-Stock Clerk at Grocery Store (Liked the guys I worked with but hated the work)
-Office Manager/Data Processor (Was ok, a tad boring)
-Webmaster/Designer (My first really creative pursuit, and something I still do today)
-Relocation Director (Fancy title, but incredibly boring job)
-CAM Assistant (In spite of the stress I actually have fond memories of this job. It's what got me into my next and current job)
-Real Estate Residential Property Management (My current job, and while it has it's moments, I enjoy it over all)

ETA:

I'm going for my CAM license here soon so my hope is to move back to St. Augustine and become a CAM :)

Babysitter (fun)
Cashier (not fun)
Grocery store specialist - coffee/florist (ok)
Baker (not fun)
Cake decorator (fun)
Website designer (ok)
Equine therapy assistant (fun)
Art therapy assistant (not fun)
Marine biology researcher (ok)
Middle school guidance counseling intern (ok)
Low-level manager (ok)

I liked the jobs where I got to help people directly... and disliked the jobs where there was a lot of BS from management. I really thought I would love marine bio but turns out I'm not into cutthroat academic research, that totally turned me off. Plus it was a lot of solitary, loooonngggg physical and tiny-scale work. Art therapy ended up sucking because most of the patients were very debilitated, and many of them had zero interest in doing the activities I was told to do with them - I remember one particular day where I had a bunch of markers and I was supposed to have them draw. One man had little hand control so he just reluctantly put dots on a sheet of paper because he was supposed to. I left that day and never came back. Being a professional artist is fun but not as satisfying as I'd hoped, and I get really stressed out by trying to make the work perfect. I think my favorite job so far has been the equine therapy. It was fun being around kids all day, I really enjoyed helping them directly, it was a lot of physical freedom, I had great camaraderie with the rest of the staff, and I loved occasionally getting to ride at the end of the day!

I've... done a few things

I thought I'd love being a software developer, but I found that the tight deadlines and having an overbearing manager made the job stressful. That and the work was a little repetative. I loved doing it whilst studying and as a hobby as it's very creative, challenging and involves a lot of problem solving. Teaching it was much more rewarding, although that had it's own frustrations. Being in management gives me much more contraol and I feel I can make more of a difference.

 • mowing lawns (so lucrative because at the age of 12, I had no real expenses! :happy2:)
 • shoveling s*** [snow, what did you think I meant? ;)]
 • raking leaves
 • babysitter (a few times... got fired for letting the kids do whatever and taking them on trips considered too adventurous for the parents :rofl1:)
 • delivering weekly community paper ads (at 4:30 am, I am not a morning person :irked:, got threatened with a pistol from suspicious homeowner, approached by doberman and various other large menacing canines who appeared out of the darkness)
 • busser at restaurant
 • meat carver at restaurant :duel:
 • cook for a day at restaurant ("the last day you do that!")
 • declined trainer job at same restaurant chain
 • totally avoided my original adolescent career goal of being a special forces officer and survival instructor or fighter/black plane pilot
 • lazy security guard who sits in car at posh neighborhood under construction and watches and listens to the nocturnal wildlife and then gets flipped off for telling rich snobs where to go during the daytime (really!)
 • security guard in bad neighborhood who probably had a price on his head for interrupting a few prostitution deals and giving the evil eye to the dealers at the crack house right next door
 • resident assistant (when the supposedly reformed ex-con started raising hell or needing final apartment inspection at the end of the year after trashing it, they sent me )
 • biology lab assistant (first day: "umm, well... the vertebrate anatomy specimen freezers have been off most of the summer due to a construction accident, and well... guess what your first task is?")

After college the real fun started:

 • EEG tech--surfing brainwaves, riding out seizures, exposing the epileptic-wannabes, trying to stop people with surgically implanted electrodes inside their skull from yanking them out :overreact:, interacting with people in comas, getting puked on right before lunch, and avoiding the vomit puddles of people with mysterious, unknown infectious diseases gnawing away at their brain :ninja:
And that got boring, so I moved on to:
 • various not so fun computer programming jobs with titles ranging from analyst, developer, and engineer with "associate" or "senior" randomly inserted :bored:
 • finally: research software developer: pretty darn fun

Had my first interview with Waddell & Reed today.

Aced the skills assessment test, and my interview with the Managing Principle went quite well.

I was invited back for a second interview on Monday!

I may be adding Financial Advisor to my list...

Tiltyred how did you like being a high school English teacher? I considered that job for a long time, and still think of it fondly as something I could have been happy doing.

I didn't like it. I left it after 2 years. I like teaching very much and feel I am a natural teacher, but not in a school setting. I also need more money than that to live on.

Could you elaborate more on why the school setting was a difficult place to work in?

Not sure my particular difficulties with it would be anything you would also encounter, so I will refrain, if you don't mind, because I don't want to discourage you. I'll just say it wasn't for me.:)
