    @Tiltyred how did you like being a high school English teacher? I considered that job for a long time, and still think of it fondly as something I could have been happy doing.

    I didn't like it. I left it after 2 years. I like teaching very much and feel I am a natural teacher, but not in a school setting. I also need more money than that to live on.

    Could you elaborate more on why the school setting was a difficult place to work in?

    - a volunteer tutor
    - a volunteer teaching assistant
    - a cashier/customer service rep
    - a cashier/barista
    - an administrative assistant at the university
    - an intern at the Boston State House

    Post-graduate Fulbright assistantship two years at a German Gymnasium (high school) as a language assistant

    A foreign language correspondent (glorified language administrative assistant) working in exports

    A freelancer running my own language consultancy self-employed business thing for the past six years, specializing in secondary and tertiary language education/proofreading and copy editing/translation and interpreting German–English/adult language education/random stuff

    Not sure my particular difficulties with it would be anything you would also encounter, so I will refrain, if you don't mind, because I don't want to discourage you. I'll just say it wasn't for me.

    *volunteer at a marine science center, humane society, hospital, and reading tutor
    *retail salesperson at Limited and Victoria Secret
    *microbiology assistant/specimen processor
    *lab front desk clerk, scheduler, phlebotomist
    *research assistant working with sheep
    *soapmaker
    *indexer, copywriter, proofreader, and information retrieval (this was the best job I had!)
